Bowflex?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

Didn't someone here just purchase a BowFlex? I just saw a crawler on the television that said the governemnt was recalling some of them for safety concerns. Maybe the people are over exercising and getting sore muscles?

The machines in question were sold nationwide from 1995 to 2003 The head of Nautilus, Gregg Hammann, says free repair kits will be sent to consumers with the recalled home gyms. The kits consist of a steel bar that will reinforce the bench and a steel bracket that will give more support to the ``Lat Tower.''

Consumers can call Nautilus Direct at 1-888-424-3020 to receive the repair kit. Nautilus is also contacting owners of the machines by mail.

I wonder if anyone has ever bought any of those type machines and used them for a year??? Any yard sale seems to have a couple that no one buys. I bought a little ab roller gizmo that I've used every other day for a year but thats cause I hate sit-ups!

I'm with you Polly. Exercise only makes the heart beat faster and we've only got so many beats in a life time. Can't waste them on exercise. Sex? Okay.

Kirk, is that the little stick with a wheel in the middle? I used one of those on a bet once when I was young and stupid. I don't remember how many times I was challanged to use it but since I was in good shape, I really over did it because it didn't seem like it was doing anything. And we'd been drinking. The next morning, I could hardly get out of bed and it took a long time to stand straight up after I did. Never touched another one. If I remember correctly, it doesn't take many reps to get the job done.

I could have sworn that someone on here ordered a BowFlex a few months ago. Maybe it's already hid in the basement. Out of sight, out of mind. Oh, they make great coat racks.

Just read an article in Readers Digest that said heavy people might live longer. Go figure.

My ex always used the ones she bought with my money. Used the two not in the storage barn for pantyhose dryers and clothes racks. :>) After her and her kid left , I put the total gym, excercycle, stairmaster and treadmill in the empty bedroom and made a personal gym. my dogs and I have used the bike and tread mill three times a week for the last 2 1/2 years. I watch Andy griffith on the old TV in there while I ride the bike and they chase me on the treadmill. :>)

That Tony Little 'Gazelle' is good for the money. We have had our for two years. It beats everything else we've tried yet. We paid reduced price on ours $325. I've seen it recently for $200. Fantastic muscular / anerobic / flexibility (sp?) machine. Its non electric - so if you are worried its going to 'run away' from you, no worries. You aren't impacting the machine at all, so much less joint damage - beats jogging by a mile.

Now if I would only get motivated to stick to it, I might get some results. Just my .02.

Yea Wildman I pinched a nerve in my right leg and the doc said I was extremely overdeveloped in my back from doing rock work. However my stomach was really weak!! So I picked up the roller gizmo. That sucker really works!!

Bark talked me into starting a Yoga class. Now that shit HURTS!! Plus being the only man in class they all poke fun at me.. Whine whine! They do this thing called a foward bend where they lean over and touch their toes? I can manage about 2.25 inches. Lower thigh level. It hurts. I cry a lot!.....Kirk

Jay, J.R., you guys are getting way too healthy. I saw a joke the other day where this old, wrinkled, hunched over man was sitting on an examining table with his walker within reach and the doctor said, "You know all that healthy eating and exercise that you did so you could live another 20 years? Well, this is them!"

Kirk, Yoga shouldn't hurt you, unless you're eating it while it's too cold. You might try taking it out of the refrigerator a little sooner. Or quit eating it all together. Funny how women love to make fun of us, isn't it? Exercise is suppose to make us feel better but it just makes me sore. I got enough aches and pains without doing something on purpose to give me more.

I thought you might be talking about bow hunting. Relieved that it was only exercise equipment.

I like exercise! I get on the treadmill and work up enough kCal output to equal a beer in the evening....if I want two beers, I'm sunk, though...either I have to move a lot faster, incline the machine more, or work out longer.

Good thing I don't like beer... :oP

Yeah! But it could be a doughnut, or ummm, what else? Actually, I think a doughnut might be more calories than a beer! Hmm...maybe a chocolate chip cookie. I'll change my whole diet! Just beer and cookies....I'll eat them on the treadmill.
