His dog was a greyhound (the best and ancient of breeds)named Peritas. He suppossedly built and named a city in India after the dog.

Peritas is correct -- various historical sources. His horse was Buchephalus.

From what I have read it seems to have been Peritas. What Alexander called him when the mutt had an accident should probably not be repeated. Please no more questions about his horse....

I see this has gone unanswered for a number of days now. That means we can name him ourselves. What about Vassily? It has more charm than Rex and more authenticity than Buddy or Bandit.
