White House sends letter to Catholic Bishop of El Obeid: "The President shares your concern for Sudan and is with you in the struggle for peace in your country "

Rome (Fides Service)- In a letter addressed to Bishop Macram Max Gassis, Catholic Bishop of El Obeid, the United States of America has confirmed its commitment to work to restore peace in Sudan. Bishop Gassis himself informed Fides that the letter, signed by Barry Jackson, vice assistant to President George W. Bush, was a reply to a letter he had addressed to a Karl Rove, one of President Bush's counsellors of.

The letter reads "The President shares your concern for Sudan and confirms his commitment to help the people of Sudan reach a peaceful solution to the civil war. A fundamental elements of the President's plan for security in Africa is co-ordination with allies, friends and international institutions to mediate in conflicts and lead operations for peace".

There is growing international commitment to end the 20 year war between Khartoum and the Southern Peoples' Liberation Army SPLA. While an agreement has been reached to stop the war in the south, fighting is reported in the western region of Darfur. Three rebel groups, Sudan Liberation Movement, Movement for Justice and Unity, Sudan Federal Democratic Alliance have said they are willing to negotiate

Mark,
The Sudan does have oil. See: http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/su.html

Maybe enough people (like me) don't realize it.

A lot of people who keep up with world politics know about the Sudan. It is a hotspot for terrorist camps. Remember that pharmaceutical manufacturing plant that Clinton distroyed? Well, it was in the Sudan.

Another horror, other than terrorism, in the Sudan, is slavery. Slavery is widespread throughout Sudan.

Oops. That does ring a bell. You're so helpful. Thanks.

George W. Bush is the best U.S. president since Abe Lincoln -- and is probably the best head of state on the face of the Earth, other than Pope John Paul II. He is a loving husband and father, an unashamed and open worshipper of God, a man who is devoted to increasing virtues (natural and supernatural) in Americans, dedicated to helping the enslaved peoples of the world enjoy the freedoms they deserve, committed to protecting America from its many enemies, desirous of helping the needy improve their situation, loyal to his allies, and not vindictive toward the gutless cowards of the world (who used to be U.S. allies). On top of all those more important things, the President is an extraordinarily intelligent man (who graduated from top-notch schools). He is a man whom extremely ignorant critics greatly underestimate because he has a rough accent and is not a glib "B.S. artist" (as are such liberal, pro-death politicians as Ketchup Kerry, Slick Willy, Slick Hillie, and the head of state of France).

God bless you, President Bush. May you be re-elected (followed in office by your Catholic brother)!
