My "lucky" day!!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

Today's the day for me...I get to have a root canal at 10:45 a.m.! Yippee!! Just cannot wait!!!!! Actually, I WILL be so very glad to get it done 'cause I've had a really bad week or so. My jaw has been so swollen that Harry has been teasing me about the "extra" head I'm growing!! Had to be on antibiotics for days before the dentist would even attempt to work on the tooth. I spent Valentine's Day alternating between a heating pad and an ice bag. Thank goodness for my cats...they were very comforting :-)!!!

So that's my "whine for the day"!!! Maybe tonight I'll be able to stay vertical long enough to get caught on the forums!!!!!

Yikes!!! Very few things in life hurt worse than a infected tooth!!! Better you than me!! Smile smile....

I'm reminded of this guy who had a reaction to Nitrious Oxide and ripped out a dental chair and pushed it out the window of a two story building! Anyway don't do that!.....

Ouch! I hope you are feeling much, much better. Hard to get a comfortable sleeping position when you have a swollen side of your face, too. I hope spring weather is heading your way to cheer you up.

Well...I'm back AND I have survived :-)!! The root canal itself wasn't bad at all. I felt absolutely nuthin'! But I was also numb from my chin back to my ear and up to my eye!! No nitrous oxide though, Kirk. This dentist doesn't use it. But I've had it in the past and I don't remember ever throwing any chairs out the window :-)!! My only regret is that I was soooo numb I couldn't feel the relief when the pressure in the tooth was relieved!! Anyways...it's over and as long as the infection doesn't start growing again I'll be fine.

Thanx for the well wishes! And Sheepish...we're "supposed" to be getting some really nice 30 and 40 degree weather this weekend so spring isn't too far away. I've been seeing and hearing the chickadees and titmice doing their spring singing and courtship thing! Very encouraging!!!

Oh poor Marcia! I've been having dental probs too......too much procrastination is coming back to torture me.

Two crowns on molars came off some time ago, and I havent replaced them (500 bucks apiece, and they have come off several times, but this time they broke). Now I am told I have such bad periodontal damage that there aint enough bone left to glue em too anyway. I havent been able to chew on one side of my mouth for a couple of years. So my options appear to be few......I'm thinking I might just have em pulled and get a partial. It's the cheapest way out I think. Implants cost a mint;we have no dental insurance, and have too much money sunk in Madwoman right now for this! I personally wouldnt have anything to do with a root canal, which they also suggested on one of em, but that's just me and my weirdness. I hope your discomfort is short-lived dear Marcia!

Thanks, EM. My discomfort is just about gone and at least I'm done with that antibiotic (clindamycin). Gotta give it credit, though...inspite of one "uncomfortable" side effect, it sure knocked out the infection fast!! Why don't you care for root canals?? I've had four (or maybe five now) with no problems and the crowns that were "installed" stayed put. I seriously considered having all my teeth yanked awhile ago, but after having full mouth exrays (yuck!) showing that my bone structure was in excellent condition and my gums were all "in the pink", I decided that when I die I want some of my REAL teeth in my mouth!!! And...Harry tells me to keep as many of my own teeth as I can so when he's "gone" and my next boyfriend checks the condition of my teeth before dating...I'll pass inspection :-) :-) :-)!!!! Just joking...of course!!

EM...you don't have to tell me why you don't like root canals. Sometimes I'm just too damn nosey :-)!!!

-- Anonymous, February 17, 2004

Marcia... You"re ever so lucky to have those teeth! Sounds like you do some good floss work! I made teeth for my living for 35 years and I've made thousands of crowns, bridges, partials and dentures. People HATE dentures!

-- Anonymous, February 18, 2004

Kirk...would you believe that I NEVER floss??? Yeah, I know I should, but I just don't think of it! The dentist was surprised that I don't have any traces of gingivitis either. Maybe the fact that I rinse with peroxide/water twice a day helps.

That's right...I remember you mentioning once before that you used to make teeth. Hey, why don't you and Barbara come to Maine and you could have a "working" vacation :-)!!! Harry needs a partial upper plate and, down the road, I'm gonna need a partial lower. Do you have a traveling workshop :-)??

-- Anonymous, February 18, 2004

Me first, Kirk! Marcia, you dont need a plate if your mouth is in such good shape! well, except for your multiple root canals that is!

Oh too bad you guys!! 5 years into retirement. How about a nice stone shed? Ha! Tell ya the truth rocks are much cleaner than teeth.

Funny thing, I used to do gold crowns on dogs! Shiny gold on the fangs! Believe me there are still very old dogs walking around showing off those shiny canines!

Gold dog teeth! Go figure.......

What do you mean everyone hates dentures? My folks have had theirs since their twenties and tell me they're great, although that wasnt the case years ago, when they had lots of problems with them,as I remember.

Marcia, I think you have the ticket to healthy gums and bone......at least one of em,besides nutrition. The peroxide! I've been doing peroxide at least once a day (at night usually) for about 6 months;wish to gosh I had started earlier.

My poor niece had to have root canal and she is only 11 years old. (Bad teeth run on her father's side of the family and my sister didn't know this until the problems started) Anyhow, she started having pain and swelling on the side of her face so my sister took her to the hospital since she couldn't get in touch with the dentist. Found a new dentist the next day and they were surprised that she wasn't told to come back every six months because she is still growing, leaving an opening for infection. Good thing my sister followed mother's instint.

Remember my 98 year old grandmother died with all her own teeth.

Me, I've got three crowns and five more to go. Dentist as a kid drilled to fill all those molars. Boy, what I wouldn't give to get a drill at him....

-- Anonymous, February 19, 2004

I swear, Dee, I think that some dentists look at your teeth and say to themselves..."Hmmm, I'll just do a little drilling here and a little filling there and down the road, this person is gonna need several root canals and crowns, and that means more money for ME"!!!! Really exasperating!!

EM...I remember a friend of ours who has a full set of dentures. Well...this guy had a party one night and got quite drunk!! He headed for the bathroom to "ride the porcelin bus" and barfed his lower dentures into the potty. Of course, then he flushed!! He ended up having the septic system pumped 'cause that was cheaper than having a new set of dentures made :-)!!!! Teeth are sooooo much fun!!

Kirk...I'd LOVE a nice stone root cellar :-)!!! How many lobster dinners is that worth??

Guess it take a real man to reclaim and actually put back in one's mouth a set of dentures that had been in the sewer! Super yuck!

I suspect the changeover from the popularity of dentures and pulling teeth to trying to 'save' teeth has been extremely profitable for dentists, and that gives them an incentive to convince us that our teeth should be saved at all costs.

I don't know if I should share my concerns about root canals; I'd hate to 'plant' any ideas in anyone's head who has already had them done. But here is a short article about it, and the dentist at the bottom, ron king, is one of my dentists.

I don't know where else to put this, so since this one is called 'lucky day', I hafta tell ya that this is MY lucky day......we made our first commercial sale! We are finally ready to start pitching the muffins ( havent even had time to work on the pizzas!), pumped myself up to go to a new low-carb store that has been getting lots of press lately, and left some samples and sales materials. She called me back within 2 hrs and said,"your muffins are divine!" She ordered two cases.Ha! Actually our insurance agent used the same word! Divine yet! Ha! So we is on our way! We have a couple pages up, although haven't put much time into it yet,if you wanna look:

I really am not a natural salesperson at all; I personally hate having things sold to me. I would much rather do my own research and seek out what I want. I rarely can be talked into buying something. So I assume others are the same way, even though I know they arent, or there wouldnt be so many people in sales! But I have to literally give myself a pep talk before every sales call, and its emotionally exhausting. Cant afford to hire someone, so we have to do it ourselves, but I think the product will sell itself, cuz the timing is perfect, they are so superior to anything else out there, and we have several niches covered. Tomoorow Bren is going to a celiac support group meeting and give samples and a sales pitch, but she talks in front of groups all the time.I couldnt do that if you paid me a million bucks a minute. Well, maybe for a few minutes.......

Anywho, wish me luck! :)
