Did ya like those Academy Awards?!

Anyone see Hidalgo yet? (can't wait)

Anyone see that Mel Gibson Passion movie? (definitely CAN wait....)

What do you think about a Peter Jackson King Kong Movie? (and should Peter Jackson play King Kong?)

Anything you want to add about movies or teevee right now?

I took Jessie to see Lion King when it came out. Or, wait; maybe the last one was that 3rd Star Wars movie....

I am re-reading all my Lawrence Sanders novels tho.

I have absolutely NO desire to see Passion!! Even though I love Mel Gibson. I can't stand watching human beings torture another human being, and from what I've heard, it's nonstop torture!!!! My MIL (who is a devout Catholic) says that everyone shoud see it no matter what religion you are so that we can understand what Jesus suffered for us! I often wonder how much of "all that He suffered" is really true!!?? Anyways...I do think that it's not a movie for young kids either!

Hidalgo looks really good, but I'll probably wait for it to come out on pay-per-view. I'll be watching network T.V. tonight. Stephen King's "Kingdom Hospital" is on at p.m.!!

Opps!! That's supposed to read 9 p.m.!!!

I had tickets to see the passion , but two devote Christians offered me double my price for them because its sold out through April here. So I scalped mine. A friend who went told me it was like going to see "The Rocky Christian Picture Show" with the way the audience was tripping out. She said it wouldn't surprise her if next year movie goers come dressed in costume for a cultfest.

What interests me more than "The Passion of Christ" is the Profitability of the Christ. The local Christian theme stores are selling crucifiction nail necklaces for $17 to $30 each. I think for next Easter I will be offering potted white dogwoods with an iron spike embedded in the roots so that the blooms will have rust red centers and capillaries. Sell em at my usual price plus the cost of the spike and let the buyer create their own symbolic story.

Jay,

Ouch! Your commentary was rather barbed! 8-)

I'm so not into torture, that I wouldn't want to see that movie at all. And hey there's already 4 (count 'em, four!) Gospel versions of the Passion anyway. I have enough variety without the gospel according to Mel. Rocky Horror Christian Show...now that's really a hoot!!! Imagine how people would chose which "character" they wanted to portray...

I didn't go see the Samurai movie or even Captain and Commander or whatever that movie is, as they both looked violent. I guess cutting off Orc and Uruk-Hai heads is bad enough...

Anyway, I really want to see Hidalgo. Gee, a girl's dream: horses and a cute guy...

I just know what melanie told me. She said that the audience at the passion was uttering amens and praise hims in unisonat at key points and in tears all the rest of the movie and it reminded her of a prim and proper version of a pictureshow cultfest at times. And those necklaces are outselling what the WWJD fad did here a few years back.

I read in the paper that a woman had a heart attack and died during one scene. What a way to go.

I saw 50 first dates even though I'm not crazy about Adam Sandler.. I thought it was good but Gary didn't like the ending. Did enjoy Rob Scnieder getting beaten up by Drew Barrymore, though.

Hey, is it normal for a 16 year old boy to still like going to the movies with his mother? I'd hate to have him be a Mamma's boy or something.

Wouldn't go to "Passion" if you put a gun to my head! Yuck on the violence crap. :)

We're going to Hildago tonite, (hope its not violent; I know there's a beheading, but I'm told I will have time to duck!) although to be honest I know almost nothing about it; havent had time to read much lately.

I want to see 'Yossi and Jagger", "girl with a pearl earring" and "Japanese Story" next.

Went to see "Barbershop 2"; it was fine, but not nearly as wonderfully warm and funny as the first, IMO. Still haven't seen 'lost in translation;' guess I will wait for the video. I never have cared much for bill murray, (always plays the same character) so I am curious to know what all the fuss is about. Have yet to see "cold mountain" either.

"Calander Girls" was wonderful. Anybody seen that? Even Polly would like that one! Likewise with the new "Peter Pan" I think, which I enjoyed a lot.

"House of Sand and Fog" was excellent; guy who wrote the screenplay lives not far from here; his wife is our state congresswoman.

Bren and I are not going into work today; almost all our snow had melted in the past two weeks of unseasonably warm weather. Last night we got dumped with 6 inches of very wet white stuff. Very pretty, with the trees all covered, but makes for messy roads. We'll go to a movie instead (theatre is 5 minutes away), and work around the house. I have a huge pile of correspondence on my desk to get to anyway. I'll go to the shop tomorrow.

Just saw this; had to pass it on. I'm lighting a candle right now for this brave and wise man. Would that we had more of them.

violence against women

OH, and Dee, I think it's great your son wants to go to movies with ya. I can think of plenty of moms who would be jealous! Not sure what you mean by a 'mama's boy.'

Excellent article, EM!! Patrick Stewart has been one of my favorite actors for years. Harry and I watch him as much as we can on reruns of "The Next Generation" and the movie where he portrayed a man losing his mind and memory (can't for the life of me remember the name!!) was most excellent!!!! This article has made me love him even more! Thanks!

I know as soon as I submit this post I'll remember the name of that dang movie :-)!!!

I'm still hesitating before I click "submit"!!!!

Awwww...I can't remember!

NOt sure, Marcia; could it be Conspiracy Theory?

Went to see Hidalgo; was pretty lame I'm afraid. Ali and I kept looking at each other and giggling cuz the dialog was so corny and predictable! It's fun for a fairy tale kinda thing, but totally unbelievable, especially the ending. Oh well, I liked the Indian Spirit scene, and I ALWAYS tear up when I see horses running, have no idea why, always have.

Yup...it's gotta be a "conspiracy theory" against me because I have a heck of a time remembering some stuff :)!!!

The movie was "Safehouse"!! I never did remember it on my own...I checked out the tapes we have of recorded movies and found it! Patrick Stewart is suffering from early stages Alzeimer's. I'm going to watch it again tonight to refresh this OLD memory of mine!!!

I watched the Academy Awards, and hooted and hollered each and every (eleven) time Return of the King won an award. Terrorized the cats thoroughly! And I went to see it again today. :-D Oh, and the opening "film", which inserted Billy Crystal into many of the movies up for awards was hilarious, and a bit frightening! LOL!

I don't care if EM didn't like Hidalgo, I'm going. ;-) Thinking about Secret Window with Johnny Depp too. Sad to say, I am a bit leery of that one, as it is based on a Steven King story. :-( Used to be that would be a recommendation, now . . . maybe not.

I was in Rockford this past weekend and caught Road to Perdition on HBO. I'd seen it once before, but it was worth a second watching.
