How big was alexander the great's empire?

You have, more or less, brought up my point. All I am saying is, military-wise, one was a true leader, a true warrior. A warrior who accomplished something so grand after being put to the ultimate test with enemies of equal stature. The others, as you also mention, only managed to conquer and achieve what they did, by picking on someone NOT their own size.. cowards. Christian

one way or another you can find your answer to this question in the above entries.

but how can you ever compare The Macedonian (Alexander's) Empire with the Mogolian or the British one or any other. So much in so little time and he did conquer civil people with culture equal to his (Persians Egyptians) and the same war expirience and knowledge***. And if you ever go to these places (middle east, pakistan so on) they talk for him with words of pride like he was one of them and in their hearts he is.

I haven't ever heard anyone speaking for his conqueror with these words of respeact. His tension hasn't to steal and exploit and bring goods back home like others did (we all know them heh). His tension was to unify and make these places home too.

Don't compare unequal thing :)

***Europeans had rifles and tactical army against africans or australians or native americans who had wooden sticks bows and arrows and they were divided in tribes. How hard is that? How brave is to win battles against people who doesn't even have a writing system while you shoot rifles..

My english is not that good. Sorry. Not my mother tongue.

Alexander's empire was vast. Yes definately not as vast as Genghis Khan's empire or what have you. However, the real accomplishment and power can be acknowledged when considering: a.)Alexander the Great conquered countries that were extremely powerful and at their glory- unlike Genghis Khan who cowardly conquered countries fighting with wooden sticks and yes, countries with absolutely no prior military experience. Some of the countries he conquered were simply barren waste land to say the least. Kind of like how the British Empire was built. You are only a true hero when you are put to the supreme test amongst other elite militaries b.) Time-wise, No other conquerer has built an empire and conquered so much in so little time. c.) Stategy; albeit the fact that both empires where separated by some 1500 years. One of them at least, was unbeatable. (yes, you do need brains to accomplish something so grand. One was a cowardly butcher-conquering 'dead' countries. The other accomplished something that echoes through eternity....

Yes, the Brit's empire, which includes United States (before independence), Canada, Australia and India is the largest. But they sort of bought the empire, not conquered it, so not sure if it counts. Russian empire is not as big as the Mongol's, but the Soviet empire is larger (second largest). Mongol's come third. Not sure what position is Napoleon's or Alexander's empire though.

I've been looking into this and I've found that the Mongol empire was the third largest after the British (13,000,000 square miles) and Russian (9,000,000) empires. However the Mongol empire is cited as being the largest continuous land empire (the British empire was broken by stretches of ocean)

True Alexander the Greats empire was big, but no where near the scale of the Mongolian empire led by Genghis Khan. His empire reached from Hungary all the way across China, in fact his empire was the largest empire ever, occupying the largest land mass. Even bigger than the British empire.

Alexander the Greats Empire is more renown because he achieved so much in such a little time and unlike the Mongolians he wasn’t as barbaric when it came to slaughtering people.

It is big but, not the biggest, Mongol empire was the biggest ever created, But Alexandr's was the biggest ever created by one man.

Great big. Really very, very big. Fabulously, enormously big.

Now, go get a map or a globe. Put your finger on Greece. Now drag your finger over to the border where Pakistan meets India. Your finger never left Alexander's empire. He also conquered Egypt and everything else on his way there from modern Turkey.
