Deco Artist/Illustrator Spanish Name

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Art Deco Society of Washington : One Thread

Hello society,

Some years ago I saw some deco prints which I really liked.

One especially remembered was the interior of a deco apartment. I also recall the apartment had been preserved in its original state and there was a comparative photo of how it looks today.

The colours were pastel in nature and the feel of the picture was very 'flat'.

The information included a statement that the artist was best remembered as an illustrator.

My last and least reliable recollection is that the artist had a Spanish sounding name.

I have searched without succes to try and locate this artist. Can anyone help?

Cheers, Rodger

Hi Rodger.

That's not much to go on, but you might be thinking of Bernard Boutet de Monvel, who was a portraitist and illustrator and whose Art Deco flat I remember seeing published somewhere in the last 2 or 3 years, maybe in House & Garden, maybe in the French version of Elle Decor, maybe Vanity Fair.

Regards,
