Polly...She's looking for those chunks of cereal you spit on your screen!!!

Well, you tell her to come right on over; I've got a big can of salmon here with her name on it!

Uh..what IS her name?!

Don't you think calico and tortiseshell cats have the best "attitudes", Kirk??!! She's a really nice looking girl. Judging by the tears in her left ear, I'd say she's been in a few battles during her life!!

She goes by Juice and she's the last of 17 wild cats that were dumped near my cabin. I trapped em fixed em and cared for em the best I could but Juicy was the only one who made herself at home INSIDE the house.

Thats a good question Marcia! I wonder which color or breed shows the most affection? Persion and calico would be my guess. Certainly not siamese!

By the way...the first time I saw 17 cats running around chasing snowflakes!!! My God thats funny

I sat outside with 5 of my 6 cats this morning (The 6th is strictly an insider). It was 60 out at 8 a.m. Bizarre. Anyway, I sat in my Adirondack chair with my feet up on the footrest. The cats were all over me and very affectionate. These kids were all ferrel and/or rescues. Four of the outsiders are Siamese crosses. They are very affectionate (when they *want* to be); otherwise, they are real stinkers. The 5th kitty is a domestic longhaired something. He's a real lover.

Anyway, Kirk, your kitty is lovely! Bravo for taking care of such a menagerie, too.

Kirk, bless you for taking care of the "feral" cats, now I don't feel that I am the only one that has an invisible sign in the front yard that says in big letters, " drop off ALL of your poor unwanted critters here!"

The most recent rescue is due to go for spaying next Monday, she will be number 16, I think, I haven't had the courage to actually count lately. Dinky was rescued right after Christmas last year, out of three black and white cats that someone had dropped off at the neighbors, she was the only that did not get immediately run over and killed, I saw her hiding under the neigbor's pine tree and had to bring her home. I couldn't bear to see another tiny black and white body along side the road, I had brought the other two, adult sized cats home and buried them in the pet cemetary.

And, about a month and a half ago, the vet assistant lady calls me up (I know I am in the computer file under Soft Hearted Sappy Lady), someone has brought in an older tomcat that their neighbors had moved away and left , they brought him in to be euthanized, had paid the 20 bucks already. He had a bad sinus infection and terrible ear mites, I just couldn't say no and have him put to death after being abandoned and sick. So I jump in the truck and go get him and bring him home too, doctor him up and after he feels better, he gets neutered and joins the bunch. His new name is Buddy, and of course, loves me dearly for saving his life, yes, he KNEW he was destined to die.

So, you will get a special place in the next life/earth/level/heaven for being such a great compassionate carer Kirk, like I always says, someone has to love and take care of 'em, might as well be me!

Had a story on the local news this morning about the increasing prevalence of feline leukemia in feral cats. Apparently its a cancer that's communicable (odd) and were warning against exposing one's housecats to the feral ones. They're rounding them up here in town, but didnt mention what they're going to do with em. (considering how those running the show behave around here lately, maybe they'll cook em up, feed em to the homeless they've helped create, then loudly pat themselves on their selfish backs for being so generous!)

Yeah I know Annie! Its impossible to turn then away isn't it! I was thinking back and I've never went looking or ever bought an animal.... they just find me. Ha!

I just don't know what it is about cats tho. Such incredible eye candy! So interesting. I once had a cat who hung-out with a possom. Ate and slept together and followed each other around! Amazing thing to see!!! Course that kitty seemed a bit puzzled possom wouldn't come out during the day! When the possom died it was the size of a small dog from the cat food!!!.....Kirk

There really is something "magical" about looking into the eyes of a cat. When a dog looks at you it's with a look of love, adoration and dependency. When I look into the eyes of one of my cat's, it's like looking their souls. Hard to explain!!

Years ago we had a cat that had given birth to a litter of three. When the kits were about a month old, Harry found two baby raccoons sitting in the middle of the road beside the dead body of their mother. He brought them home and that mother cat adopted them like one of her own! The raccoons wouldn't actually nurse on her, but they'd nuzzle and snuggle right in with the kttens. Mother cat would keep them nice and clean. I fed the coons a mixture of milk and scrambled eggs...along with some dry cat food...and they were doing fine til the game warden found out I had them! He took them away. Bummer!! Yeah I know it wasn't legal for me to have them without a license...big deal!!
