Interior systems carpenter

greenspun.com : LUSENET : craft discussion group : One Thread

Hi, I am trying to choose between Interior Systems and Construction Carpenter. How many hours do each of these average a year in a normal economy. Is it true interior carpenters work through most winters? If you run out of work in winter can you travel to keep working?

Thanks want to be apprentice David Allen

In general carpenter work has become less seasonal due to changes in technology which allow construction in inclement weather. Some members 'follow the work' and travel to other areas where the construction market is hottest. Average hours would be misleading as you cut between the lowest and highest hours to arrive at a mean. A talented, trained tradesman who establishes a reputation for safety, production and craftsmanship will be in demand in the worst of times. Regards and best wishes, Rocky
