It is believed that the first fivebooks were composed by Moses.

I don't think so.

To me, Genesis was written by Joseph and his descendants, not Moses.

THE 2000 YEAR OLD MOST HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH SAYS :

HOW THE BIBLE CAME ABOUT

Some scholars think that the first community writing took place at Kadesh-barnea, the place the Israelites used as their main base during their years of wandering before they entered Canaan. THOUGH MOSES IS NOT THE ACTUAL AUTHOR OF THE PENTATEUCH, THE FIRST FIVE BOOKS OF THE BIBLE (HIS DEATH IS RECORDED IN DEUTERONOMY 34, 5), HE IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND IT. IT IS REASONABLE TO THINK THAT HE WROTE DOWN THE BASICS OF HIS TEACHING DURING THIS DESERT PERIOD. ~ Father J. Kodell

There you have it, James.

Father Kodell has it right: If Moses dies in the Book of deuteronomy, he could not have completed the five Books.

Besides that, I think the relatinves of Moses: Aaron and his sons, wrote most of Leviticus.

Genesis looks like the geneology of Joseph. He is the main character. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are listed as his ancestors. Joseph worshipped El Shaddai. Genesis only mentions God as El.

The first 6 chapters mention God as Yahweh, so they were not written by Joseph and his family. Most likely by David's prophet: Nathan. David is the first King to use God's name as Yahweh.

Solomon's name was Yedidiyahu.

Levi, the ancestor of Moses is listed in Genesis as a murderer. So Moses could not have put his family in a bad light. Thus he did not write Genesis.

Numbers, and the insert of Judah in genesis I believe are the product of Judah's descendant King David. They want to show why David inherited the Kingdom. There is a curse that said no moabite could enter the House of Israel. David's grandma was a Moabite.
