United Methodist Church web hosting for their 2004 General Conference

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

Hello,

I just find it interesting that the United Methodist Church has implementing something that a few of you suggested--a web case of their General Conference at http://www.gc2004.org, which will begin tomorrow, April 27 - May 7, 2004. Out of curiosity, I attempted to log into the site. On my computer a "user name" and "pass word" box keeps appearing. This is also appearing on their connectional website, http://www.umc.org, which seems to indicate that the webcast will be password protected. Would it also be cutting-edge for the AME Church to develop a webcast for upcoming general conferences, in which a few is assessed and a user name/password would be distributed, or this way too impersonal for our people? I frankly think it is a good idea myself.

Sorry for the typos. I meant to say that the United Methodist church has implemented something...also a "fee" appears to have been assessed for access to this website. THanks.

For what it's worth, I recommended this idea (webcasting the AME Gen Con) to this MB and to the Chief Information Officer for the AME Church, Clement W. Fugh late last year. I even proposed having a nominal fee similar to the UMC for those who wish to subscribe for this service. When I was at the MCE Meetings it was announced at a technology workshop that the AME Gen Con will have limited webcast availability. When I hear this officially from Fugh's office I'll let you and others know. QED

Brothers and Sisters,

I think its a great idea. I'm in the business of systems engineering and have been trying to contact the webmaster of the main A.M.E. site with no success. I'm prepared to donate my time and talent to the venture if I could only get in contact with the right belly-button. Our great Zion should have a much more comprehensive presence on the web, for a witness, for news and information for our congregations and for a host of other opportunities a presence would bring to the church. Please let me know who I should contact.

In His Service,

Brother Harris, go to the Official AME WEb Site http://www.ame- church.com and send a email to the Chief Information Officer, Dr. Fugh. He always responds to my emails within a coupla days.
