Proverbs 11:2. When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.

Is this not so today? Do we see rallys, and cheers?

Gay pride parades, Prideful advocates of "womens reprodictive rights", Pride in the attitude of the modern man, who seeks to "Do his own thing" and to have sex at will, drink at will, curse his neighbours at will.

So true is this verse, and yet so lbind are they who liv ein this world to it, for they fall tot he words of the arrogant and prideful.

Or this verse, form Proverbs 13: 10. Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

This is so with wha I know. I have met many learned men, and many fools, and wht I know is that those of contention seek no wisdom, nor conain wisdom, they merely attempt to get their way, and to force others with signs of aggression.

Those who are lowly ar emocked and caled stupid, even arrogant and egotistical, whole the modern man parades himself as though the centre of atention, while flauting perversity at every corver.

But what is the end of this madness?

Priversb 16: 18. Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Shall we, in our prieful, contentoous western world, see a fall? Or , as with ninevah, can we repent, and learn the ways of the Lord our God still?

Or is all lost to the way of life, leavign only sin and deaht and enslavement in its wake?

I close, thouhg I offered this form Proverbs, with a Citation form Ecclesiasties, 10:3. Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a fool.

Very insightful Zarove.

Zarove, this really made me think. You said: Shall we, in our prieful, contentoous western world, see a fall? Or , as with ninevah, can we repent, and learn the ways of the Lord our God still? Or is all lost to the way of life, leavign only sin and deaht and enslavement in its wake?

I fear that a fall is what is coming, with the way society is going. I think repentance will come after our fall - this is just my speculation, and in this sense, a fall will be good. The other option is that society will become so secularized, that it will be hostile to Christians. This will weed out the "luke warm" Christians and leave the faithful ones to be persecuted. All is never lost, however. No matter how sinful we are, there is always hope in Christ. Yes, our society's way of life seems to lead to sin, death, and enslavement, but the gates of hell will not prevail, as Jesus promised! There will still always remain God's faithful, bringing the message of truth and hope.

God bless,

Very true Zarove. We can only hope that the proud who wage war to impose their own will on the world, arrogantly claiming it is God's will, will reflect on these passages and see God's true way.

-- Peter K (ronkpken@yahoo.com.au), May 04, 2004.

How about those who wage war defending our civilized world from violence and terrorism by stealth, as has already happened multiple times in just a few years? If it's arrogant to fight a declared enemy bent on destroying Christian peoples and Jews by any means possible, then why aren't you arrogant?

You & your timorous ''non-violent action''-- You're only brave and arrogant here, denouncing other Catholics for not buying your redundant and smarmy BS. That's just as arrogant, in my book.

Eugine, this thread is not about Politics, so please leave other isues off. It was a reflection that I had during my own bibke readings.

It stems form a problem we, as a society , have.

-- ZAROVE (ZAROFF3@JUNO.COM), May 04, 2004.

I'm responding to the post by Peter K. He's getting away with false accusations against Americans. Tell him he should desist, and all of us can concentrate on your idea.

-- eugene c. chavez (loschavez@pacbell.net), May 04, 2004.

Unfortunately Eugene has a jaundiced view of everything I say because I don't endorse his nationalist pride and political prejudices. I said nothing about america, I was referring to all who claim the wars they wage are God's will. It was Emily and Zarove who restricted it only to western society, and even they did not restrict it to america. I only hope Eugene really does concentrate on Zarove's idea above, and stops attacking me. I gave up talking to him on another thread because of his vulgar abuse and because he introduces his political and nationalist propaganda into every subject, now he has followed me here to continue it. It is he who is making "false accusations", not I.

-- Peter K (ronkpken@yahoo.com.au), May 04, 2004.

And now he's being intellectually dishonest. As if, ''--the proud who wage war to impose their own will on the world, arrogantly claiming it is God's will,'' --Just dropped out of noplace, for him to condemn. Immediately following on his diatribes against our coalition's war in Iraq? Why not just be honest, and grind the old axe? Unjustly enough.

-- eugene c. chavez (loschavez@pacbel.net), May 04, 2004.

Yes they "Just dropped out of noplace" into the World Trade Centre. Eugene's arrogance and hatred so blinds him that he only sees hatred in others when they are trying to be sympathetic to his country and affirming of the good in it. I make no "diatribes". It is he who hijacked a productive discussion about "what is the worst thing in the world" with his diatribes against anyone who dares raise the slightest query about the justice of "our coalition's war in Iraq" OUR? They are NOT fighting in the name of the Catholic Church no matter how much some wish it so. In fact the Church condemned the war. To be called "dishonest" by someone who speaks with such a forked tongue, is a compliment.

Eugene and Peter,

Jeez Louise, is every thread now infected with the bickering of you two lovebirds? It seems like it. Oh well, it makes good theater. You should take your act on the road. ;)

-- Brian Crane (brian.crane@cranemills.com), May 05, 2004.

Again, this was about Prde in the general society, NOT in the war spacificaly, this is NOT a political war thread.

However, boht of you DO illustrate the point of this that I wrote.

Now sop bickering and start showin the humility our Lord asked us to, and reveiw the verses I osted form your own Bibles, and turn yout own hearts form Pride

-- ZAROVE (ZAROFF3@JUNO.COM), May 05, 2004.

I'm sorry Zarove. I felt I had to point out the falsity of the accusations against me. I was honestly trying to respond to your question and the scripture and I do try sincerely not to be prideful myself, and to seek wisdom in the Bible and the teachings of the Church. I don't want to continue to debate with someone who is so determined to misrepresent church teaching. In future I will stick to the subject of the thread and ignore his taunts.

-- Peter K (ronkpken@yahoo.com.au), May 05, 2004.

Ignore HIS taunts ? ? ? What's this: [Some one] ''who is so determined to misrepresent Church teaching'' --if not taunting?

Mr Humility; explain who this someone is? I've never misrepresented Church teaching. I understand it better than most, and support it. (Not saying it from pride. Just fact.) You are the ''determined one'', who will scrap over a bone to the bitter end.
