"Rod knows a lot about this - i don't - but there were other books that may have been excluded on account of lack of authenticity or otherwise. "-Ian

When I first stumbled across these books, the word "apocryphal" had the meaning equated with the word "bastard". In other words, the authors word not identyfied, which made for questionable authenticity and reliability. But, there are some books that may not be false or erroneous. I can't say for sure which books are true and which may not be. But, I do wonder about those books describing the life of Mary. Elpidio islolated the Song of Solomon (Song of Songs) as erotic stories...ok. But, who are these stories really about? The Sacred Marriage, but of who? Israel the nation or a particular person or profession?

Here's a word that may open a whole new look at religious rituals:

qdesha

If one takes the time to study the meanings and origins of the word qdesha, one will encounter some very surprising rituals once considered sacred. If one continues digging deeper into this subject, they will find dangerous associations. Be careful how you interpret what you find.

Hi Rod,

I did a quick Google search on qdesha on got a hit on the following link:

http://www.well.com/user/aquarius/deuteronomy23.htm

What I found was interesting...

Note: I haven't verified this with additional resources yet.

Deuteronomy 23

1 The one wounded by crushing or by the cutting of his genitals may not enter to the assembly of Yahweh ...

17 No daughter of Israel shall become a qdesha; no son of Israel shall become a qadesh; you shall not bring zona earnings or keleb money into the house of Yahweh your God for any vow, for both of them are indeed detestable to Yahweh your God.

Notes:

Re 1: Although the Hebrew word for eunuch saris appears 45 times throughout the Hebrew scriptures, it is not used in connection with this verse that prohibits castrated men from entering into the assembly of Yahweh. Moreover, in Jeremiah 34:19, some sarisim are reported to have taken part in a religious rite, which would have been a violation of this verse if sarisim were castrated.

Re 17: qdesha and qadesh are both words that come from the Semitic root q-d-sh, meaning holy. They were temple personnel in Babylonian cults. A zona was a female prostitute, and a keleb was a male gigolo, assuming a connection between the keleb and the kulu'u of Mesopotamian goddess cults.

This is off topic, but could verse 1 include those with voluntary vasectomies?

BTW, those wierd events still happen. I don't know what to make of them. Perhaps I'm being taunted by evil forces....hm?

I have a gig this morning.....got to run.

I just don't know if I showed you before already.

I think so, Andy.

The son of Judah who did not want to make Tamar pregnant and the qdesh/a imply not capable of reproducing.

So vasectomies ar in the same league.

The Christian Yahwist

PS: Rod, what do you mean by mara?

-- Elpidio Gonzalez (egonval@yahoo.com), May 07, 2004.

I'm referring to "temple priestesses" . Their duty was to act as proxies to the fertility godess Ishtar. "Mara" was the name given to those is such duty. You piece it together, Elpidio. I won't make the connections in a public forum. I'm Catholic, remember?

Have a look at all of the turmoil in the O.T. and the "Sacread Marriages" that took place throughout the O.T. The women were not actually free to marry, until it was forced upon them. Example:

David and Bathsheba, the roof top garden has some significance.

St. Paul makes the move to correct a particular church on the issue of deviant sexual activity. Some paganism was still happening.

But, this was way after the timeline particulars.

[related account to "ritualistic sexual practices"]

Castration as a church association: The Valesians(Gnostics) existing during the time of Epiphanius, Bishop of Salamis.

"Most were members of the Church until foolishness became known and expelled. All but a few are eunuchs. When they take a man as a disciple, he does not eat meat while still uncastrated, but when they convince him of this or castrate him by force, he may eat anything because he is out of the struggle and runs no such risk of being aroused to the pleasures of lust by what he eats."
[Panarion 38]

Submitted is an example of the Gnosticism pravelant in the Church. These followers actually believed in this paganistic practice. I'd say the multitude of sects and doctrines needed aligning into one Church.

(Hmm? food is some kind of aphrodisiac....oh, my!)
