Finding New Moderators

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Ask Jesus : One Thread

I decided to start a new thread, since Rod's thread was going in this direction: finding new moderators when David doesn't have the time to moderate this place.

-- Elpidio Gonzalez (egonval@yahoo.com), May 13, 2004

Answers

I had nominated these 3 for the job: Rod, faith, and Luke.

They have been contributing to this forum for a long time. They show some level of fairness towards most people here.

-- Elpidio Gonzalez (egonval@yahoo.com), May 13, 2004.

Being Catholic shpild not disqualify people from being moderators here when they show some level of fairness towards most people here.

After all, at one time I was a catholic leader, later, as my viws began to change, I still considered I considered myself a Catholic: Example from Catholic Forum:

Has anyone had a dream about the Pope lately?... Figure that out. To put it in modern words for you: A Christian Catholic Yahwist. That is: I believe Jesus is the Christ. He paid the penalty for us. ... www.greenspun.com/ bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=00AlZm - 101k - Cached - Similar pages

Also, Jim could do well.

Here is when I and him met for the first time:

Notice Jim's comment as opposed to Eugene Chavez':

Elpidio I didn't mean to bring a storm of controversy upon you. As Rod observed it did look like I yelled Taxi! and "got the hay out of the way." My intent was only to understand your perspective. I'm in no position to judge and have a long way to go. I read a book a year or so back that you might find interesting. "James the Brother of Jesus" by Robert Eisenman. His conclusions are largely discounted by most theologians, but its still a fascinating read. Should be read with the understanding that it is in not Catholic in any way. Its an attempt at historical reconstruction. THe documentaion is massive, however much is based on scriptures and writings that were rejected by the early church fathers. Its documentation is based on the works of Josephus, pseudo-Clementine writings, Hegessipus, Origin, apocryphal works, inconsistansies in the new testement etc. Eisenman suggests that there is much more solidly documented information about James than about Jesus. He sees James as the primary force after Christ in early Jewish Christianity, (more so than Peter) and an important scorce of information about the origins of our faith. He feels that James was for the most part written out of the cannonical gospels because his Jewish slant just didn't fit with the Church's ongoing revelation. Notes and documentaion for his arguments will keep you busy for ages. This post in no way is meant to recommend or condone Eisenman's viewpoint, just an interesting well researched book that may be up your alley. It may seem anti-catholic to some, but I read it simply as a scholarly work. I try to understand this type of material as being separate from issues of Faith. (an area in which I need much work.)

-- Jim Furst (furst@flash.net), May 07, 2003.

Jim, that is true, a lot is known about James, the brother of the lord. I have read Josephus works. Also several of the Church fathers about James. They have tried to make him a relative as opposed to a brother. James was not one of the twelve. Since in the beginning Jesuus family thought he was going crazy, it makes sense why he was accepted into the Church, as Paul in I Corinthias 15 states that Jesus appeared to James. Also, since he was family, he had a lot of weight in the first council at Jerusalem in AD 49. Peter may have received the keys of the Kingdom by Jesus, but he was no physical relation. That is why the pronouncement of James was accepted. John G, as far as I remember, adoption was when a brother died, the other brother raised children on his brother's behalf by taking on his dead brother's wife. Since that wasn't the case with Joseph, then Jesus had to be his real son.

You can call me anything you like. That doesn't deny the fact for me that Jesus is the Christ.

-- Elpidio Gonzalez (egonzalez@srla.org), May 07, 2003.

This comes under the heading of perverse, Elpidio. We ought to resolve the matter by saying, ''If that's what makes you happy, get lost. We have nothing else to discuss.'' I'm serious. You are in the wrong forum. It was nice knowing you.

-- eugene c. chavez (loschavez@pacbell.net), May 08, 2003.

Jim, even though he is Catholic, understands that also others hold to some sort of the truth.

Well, considering the number of posts by each member.....

I'm always hanging around here, but the moderator duties might be too taxing on my other duties. I just don't know. Also, I don't believe David would give the keys to me.

Gail doesn't post as frequently, but she is fair in her judgement.
Jim has that quality, too.
Faith already has the keys (mentioned earlier by David in another thread).
Luke is still "Mr. Clean" around here.
Ian hasn't expressed a burning desire, so I shouldn't nominate him (?)
Kevin has already declined such possibilities.
Elpidio has declined (I believe).

That leaves "Jeannie","Phelps", and "TOM".
We could invite Paul, Ed, and John G.????
(I'm just trying to get at David.)

We posted at the same time, Elpidio.

I would accept some responsibilities, if called to action.

Most people here are trinitarian, except for me, Rod.

Posting at the same time??? Maybe our psychic connection, dream connection, Thomas connection,...

-- Elpidio Gonzalez (egonval@yahoo.com), May 13, 2004.

I wouldn't mind having limited duties: HTML editing, password protecting. I would not want banning priveledges. (Man, I can't even spell.)

.............

-- rod (elreyrod@yahoo.com), May 13, 2004.

Hi Elpidio and Rod,

Thank you for the recommendation. Alas, I have no HTML capabilities at all. I can't even tell you what the letters stand for. The only thing I could be qualified to do is password protect, or delete profanity if an attack happend "while" I was around. (Someone would have to explain how to do it; I'm still capable of learning in small simple units.)

Otherwise, thanks for the kind words!

P.S. Elpidio, your post is like a time machine. I vaguely remember writing that. Its interesting seeing it again a year later. I think my "yelling taxi" was something about Arianism.

-- Jim Furst (furst@flash.net), May 13, 2004.

Rod,

You proclaimed yourself Catholic. The @@@.@ post was from me, I just didn't have time to type my whole name and email.

-- David Ortiz (cyberpunk1986@hotmail.com), May 13, 2004.

What about Zarove?

-- David Ortiz (cyberpunk1986@hotmail.com), May 13, 2004.

Zarove is alright, David. I hope he can get a new keyboard. Some of the keys are not working properly. So sometimes it looks he doesn't spell.

He is conservative on some Christian issues and dogmas: trinity, virginity,...

He is progressive on others: social justice,...

Emily has been in both worlds: Protestantism and Catholicism: As long as her new found religion doesn't get to her head, she's alright.

She is at the stage she wants to convert Protestants into Catholics. She needs some more Greek and Hebrew in her vocabulary.

She could make a great preacher one day.

Once, he actually wrote OK. So I guess is the keyboard.

-- Elpidio Gonzalez (egonval@yahoo.com), May 13, 2004.

Elpidio

If it were that simple to get Zarove a new keyboard, but it isn't that. Zarove has dyslexia.

David

Yes, I did proclaim myself Catholic. I'm sure Kevin would confirm me as a Catholic. Many here in this forum have considered me Catholic. I have cleared my head of 90% confusion and can honestly say that I'm Catholic. I think like a Catholic and I believe like a Catholic. Some of the dogmas make sense to me after taking the time to read the history and circumstances surrounding the events leading to those dogmas. But, quite honestly, after reading much of the information in the Catholic forum, some would still consider me a half-cooked Catholic or even a schismatic or even a heretic. This is why I answered you the way I did. The Catholic Church needs to call me a Catholic and allow me to partake in the Eucharist. Oh, it has been expressed that I can find alternate acts of faith in substitution of the Eucharist. Sorry, it doesn't add up to me. So, I'll call myself a Catholic and keep the image of being such. Although, with all of the research and discussions in my curious mind and faith, I wonder if all of these doctrines can be boiled down to one universal faith. I do like the pre-Constantine era, when things were simple, but fatal for Christians. Elpidio has done his homework and identifies with Ebionism. I'd like to travel a little bit more on this side of Ebionism. It is difficult; it is a struggle

.........

-- rod (elreyrod@yahoo.com), May 13, 2004.

Jim, I still have some of the old Spong e-mails we discussed.

I save everything.

By people like you, Rod, David, Ian, Luke, faith, James,....discussing certain topics with me has helped me deal with certain situations better.

We learn a lot, even from our religious opponents or enemies.

I learned a lot from Eugene Chavez and John Gecik. They always had an answer for me. 10% of Gecik's posts were directed at me. 8% of Eugene's were also directed at me. More than 30% of those discussions have already been deleted mostly by Ed. Unfortunately, they went from friendly opponents to religious enemies. They realized I was up to the challenge. That is why Gecik asked for my banning.

I don't doubt he will be reading this post during his spare time.

He follows my every step. He considers me one of his toughest opponents. The one that can truly affect the conversion of Catholics into Christian Yahwism. Up until today I have not asked people to join me my movement.

Unlike all other Yahwist groups which tend to be inclusive, dogmatic, with strong leaderships (like the Roman Catholic Church)....I tend to be more inclusive, more forgiving, more accepting.

Examples: I would accept people with different creeds, people who divorced, unmarried couples, people who had abortions and feel bad about it, people who killed and realized it was wrong, even gays and Lesbians who wish to change,......

Why,....because we all sin!!!!

I am for peace, but I am for war when war has a good purpose and reason. I am not for cruel torture. My students who join the military know that. They are told: Don't kill women and children who are not in combat.

I am against pornography of all kinds. To me is another form of prostitution.

I am against abortion. I rather have people practicing contraception once they had their first child.

I am against homosexuality and Lesbianism, yet I am open to their suffering. Most became that way. They were not born that way. Only a few who are hermaprodites or have hormonal imbalances were born that way.

Yesterday, the young man who became a science experiment in the 1960s when his penis no longer was there and lived as a girl, committed suicide at age 38.He finally rebelled in his teens. Once he was told he was born a boy, he realized why he felt the way he did. But hthe psycholical damage was done already.

The knife , the clothes, and the lifestyle cannot change one's sexual desire.

When people begin to realize what God truly wants from us, then, most of the barriers would be broken.

That is why Gecik was afraid of me: I don't care about dogmas, I care about the person.

To me, someone like Laurent, an Atheist, hold as much sympathy as David, as Rod,...as Ian do.

He is one of God Yahweh's creations. God has even mercy on the atheists who acted righteously even though they never knew him.

The reason I created this thread is for you to train people in case of emergencies.

You already learned some tricks to deal with problems. You also learned many other stuff. This way, the forum can survive during your hibernation in college.

This forum is the fastest growing in Greenspun. As fast as the catholic. Threads could have over 30+ postings. This thanks to you and Rod.

There, one person has replaced Gecik with a new agenda: abortion and anti -Kerryism. I am talking about Bill. 30%+ of all new threads since January are his. Many moderates don't post anymore. They are immediately silenced. I think Zarove is the last Protestant posting there.

I was talking about you David Ortiz in the previous posting. I thought I had your name already typed.

-- Elpidio Gonzalez (egonval@yahoo.com), May 13, 2004.

Elpidio

You have seen through my methods and seen my motives. I may seem like the bad guy, at times, around David. But, this place really did need a balance of thoughts and rebuttals. My calvary hat, spurs, and bugle hang proudly above my desk. I did what I had to in the name of the hunt for the truth. Some will never see it the way you have. I think I've done the right thing. Whose footsteps have I followed? I'm not sure that those footsteps were followed from the other forum. That forum is designed for the protection of one faith and only one faith. This place is different--right or wrong--for what it's worth, hopefully for the understanding of our own faith. We question and reason about things that others may fear to approach. If anything, we shouldn't fear what is faced during the uncovering of what may very well be the truth. How better to reveal those truths unless there are those who will say what is in their faith?

.......

-- rod (elreyrod@yahoo.com), May 13, 2004.

Have we noticed that this forum allows for the posting of one's doctrine as the source of arguement and debate? Elpidio mentioned the curtailment of moderate views. It seems that mainstream Christian beliefs and orthodox Catholicism rules the day in this forum. Not, to mention the periodic "other side", Elpidio.

Of course, now we'll be debating the definitions of "mainstream" and "orthodox".

......................

-- rod (elreyrod@yahoo.com), May 13, 2004.

Oops!

I didn't mean to make such a point. I put the punctuation in the wrong place.

Not, to mention the periodic "other side", Elpidio. The reads: Not Elpidio. That's not what I meant.

I meant:

Not to mention, the periodic "other side", Elpidio.

That would have a different meaning, yes.

Do the math.

Also,

I intend on changing the Moderators address from "Christian_moderator@hotmail.com" to my personal email "cyberpunk1986@prodigy.net." The reason for this is because my prodigy email has a 25 MegaByte (25 MB) limit, while my hotmail account has a 2 MB limit. The hotmail account holds about 700-900 messages before it gets full, so I'm sure my prodigy account can take 6,000-7,000 messages. And I'm pretty sure you guys won't even come close to that number in 3 months, altough I may be proved wrong. This is just to keep a copy of every message that gets posted and not to get a "Delivery Failed" message when the hotmail account gets full.

Does he think you are not the real Rod?

Maybe you are "El Cid Campeador, Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar", incarnated...

El Cid Rodrigo Diaz de Bivar.

Executed (beheaded) 4,000(?) unarmed pagan prisoners who resisted conversion. El Cid was later crowned defender of the faith by the Church. That spaniard! Well, too much research can lead a horse to water, but sometimes that water tastes real bad.
