Question about BitTorrent (sorry I'm really dumb!)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Community Anime Reviews : One Thread

Hi! Is is still possible for me to consider using BT to download manga and anime? I am on dial-up (56k), and I shut down my PC after using it. I can't leave it on for a long time (maximum is 5 hours).

I have tried using it before, but it eaither says "Bad data from tracker" or "cannot connect to peers". BTW I used "bittorrent-EXPERIMENTAL-UNOFFICIAL-3.2.1b-2.exe".

Im really sorry if this has been asked before or if it sounds really stupid to you. But I would really want to be able to use BT.

Thanks a lot!

Answers

Getting manga via BT is okay for you since torrents with actual people in it should finish very fast, it's hard to get anime on BT if you are only going to leave it on for 5 hours.

Gee, thanks for the answer!

So, it's OK to like for example leave the BT on for about 3 hours and then turn the PC off?

Also, can you get viruses, worms, malicious scripts and the like from BT?

You can turn off PC and BT, but most likely the anime file wouldn't finish downloading. You can still resume the file if you go back to the torrent link and save the actual file in the same directory as you have last time like getright. As far as I know no one had actually tried uploading a virus on bittorrent, but if you want to be cautious, ignore any file in a torrent where the file ends with .exe .

Hi! Thanks for your answers. They'be been of great help. Er, what sho I do if the BT says " ERROR, trouble accessing files. invalid mode. wb+".

Please help! Thanks again!

You most likely corrupted your file that you were downloading (if you shut it down when you were downloading it and tried to resume it).

All torrents that I download take up to 2 weeks for 1 episode. Where can I download a new Bit-torrent?

Well the time is normally alot sooner then what it first says when you start it up.If you wait a few hours then thats normally the right time. But if it's 2 weeks, then it would ether slow down or speed up from the time they put...

To be honest the time is never accurate until the last hour or so. If you divid out the acctual download rate with the total and stuff it SHOULD be done much sooner then the time it says. Don't consintrate on the time they put and look at the data below that. Its more trusting =]

Also if you do cancel it cuz you have to turn of your PC and resume it the next time you get on and the connection is slower then it normally is, cancel it again and re-connect it. It normally is faster if you do that. You might have to do it a second time even. It just depends on the place your downloading from and stuff. I've got DSL, so i dunno what will help you all with dail-up =_=

I know that doen't really help you much, cuz it's gunna take a really long time anyway, but it's something...I hope.....^_^;;
