All SF Supes Support Fascist Vietnamese Flag of CIA Puppets by We Remember Vietnam Tuesday July 22, 2003 at 07:37 PM

All 11 members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, 1 Green, 9 Democrats & 1 no party, unanimously voted for a resolution supporting the yellow and red striped flag of the local CIA agent-Vietnamese American residents, instead of the official flag of Vietnam of a yellow star on a red background. The question remains: What are they doing endorsing any non-American flag?

All 11 members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, 1 Green, 9 Democrats & 1 no party, unanimously voted for a resolution on supporting the yellow and red striped flag of the local CIA agent-Vietnamese American residents, instead of the official flag of Vietnam of a yellow star on a red background. The question remains: What are they doing endorsing any non-American flag?

This vote was taken on July 15, 2003, and finally made the SF Chronicle on July 22, 2003. See: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2003/07/22/BA257949.DTL

The agenda item, No. 75, is at: http://www.sfgov.org/site/uploadedfiles/bdsupvrs/bosagendas/a071503.htm

Anyone from the progressive community who was there should have reported it on this website. It is now being reported and condemned, and is instructive why we must never vote for any Democrat or Republican.

It is also clear that Matt Gonzalez, the Green Party member, now has no political future in San Francisco so long as he allows this vote to stand. The Green Party had better demand that he retract his vote if the Green Party is to maintain any credibility as a progressive organization.

The entire progressive community of the world, including San Francisco, celebrated the liberation of Vietnam on April 30, 1975, when the workers and peasants of Vietnam defeated the mightiest fascist military machine the world had seen since Nazi Germany, namely the United States. The US puppet in Vietnam was the South Vietnamese "government," symbolized by this yellow and red striped flag. Liberation meant the North and South united under the red flag with the yellow star.

For that victory, 3 million Vietnamese gave their lives. In addition, at least 1 million Cambodians were murdered by CIA puppets, the Khmer Rouge, 58,000 Americans died fighting for the profits of the US capitalist class, and thousands of others died (Australia and others contributed troops to the US imperialist effort).

Today, thousands of Vietnamese and Americans remain disabled. Many Vietnamese are being killed or maimed by land mines. Agent Orange is still causing birth defects among the Vietnamese. It was a chemical used to destroy the jungle foliage of Vietnam and turn it into a desert. Hitler would have been proud of Agent Orange, the tiger cages, white phosphorous, napalm and many other horrors used by the US military and its puppet government of South Vietnam.

No supervisor is allowed to plead ignorance as it is their responsibility to understand the importance and history of what they are being asked to support. Every single member of that Board who is over age 40 certainly can remember April 30, 1975. That includes such liberals as Tom Ammiano, Jake McGoldrick and Sophie Maxwell.

Those of you who have no clear memory of the US War Against Vietnam and have not heard any of this before should go to the library and read as many books as you can on Vietnam and look at all the pictures in all the books. Felix Greene did an excellent photo booklet, showing the US crimes' against humanity in Vietnam. What the US did in Vietnam was no different from what the Nazis did.

You should also rent the video, "Born on the 4th of July," a story of the life of Ron Kovic, who happened to be born on the 4th of July, who went to Vietnam as a soldier and was severely injured, causing him to spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

You must be sure to observe the scene where he is speaking to a crowd of people at some parade glorifying war and a baby screams out. The scream reminded him of the babies he killed in Vietnam, and that scene is re-enacted.

To also vote for the official flag of Vietnam this week does not negate last week's vote. No one can claim to be any kind of progressive if one votes for the flag of the fascist puppet government of what was South Vietnam, as they actively participated in the torture and murder of the Vietnamese people at the behest of the CIA, the agency of American imperialism.

To call oneself a progressive is to celebrate the glorious victory of the workers of the world on April 30, 1975, for we all contributed in one way or another to that resounding victory.
