looking for family type boat with rowing gear under $1000? realistic? planning on rowing the lakes of the adirondack mountains in nys. if so, who should I contact?

Possible, if you can find one used, or if you want to build one. But for that price range a canoe is more likely. And canoe'ing those lakes is pretty easy on most days. (Except maybe Lake George or Lake Champlain which being larger can kick up a bit of waves.) -Gary-
