Crosses on the Los Angeles Seal

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I am wondering what some of you may think about the ACLU wanting to have the 3 little crosses removed from the Los Angeles Seal?

They have been there for so many years and now the ACLU is saying that they must be removed because they are offensive to non-Christians.

This really saddens me a great deal. Why is the ACLU so bent on removing anything Christian from this nation?

I think it is up to the people of Los Angeles. Bring it up to a vote.

yEZH JUST LIKE GAY MARRIAGE IN mASS.

sorry, its up tt he judges and ACLU Lawyers, the peopel will have no say.

But its ironic since the NAME of the city is Chroisyain derived. whats next, rename the entire City of St>Paul Minisota? Its name is also offensive t non-christains, or so we are told.

They don't have a problem with the pagan goddess Pomona in the center, but have problems with the crosses?

Yes. It makes sence too. See, the ACLU is for seperation of Chrisyainity form the geenral populace, btu Paganism must be promotes as part of the cultual diversity.

The ACLU sint agaian religion, just Chrisainity.

Next they'll try rewriting the history books to leave out the 21 California Missions.....

I saw on the news this evening that the people of Los Angeles are protesting because they have had enough of the ACLU.

What's next? Will they want to remove the symbol of the Red Cross, perhaps change its name?

The ACLU hates Christians and that is what this is all about. Muslims are allowed a lot more religious freedom in this country for fear of offending them, but it is a different story with Christians.

If they do that then logically they would have to change the name of the city itself, on the grounds that it is "offensive" to those who don't believe in angels. Not to mention San Francisco, Corpus Christi, Santa Fe, etc. etc.

In reality, virtually all Muslims, Jews, Hindus etc. and even the vast majority of atheists, don't find these "Christian" things "offensive" at all. These campaigns are driven by a tiny, tiny minority of militant anti-Christian atheist ideologues who will not rest until they have scorched the earth to remove every faint remaining vestige of Christianity.

Right you are, and it gets old, and I m amazed they can get away with it.

-- ZAROVE (ZAROFF3@JUNO.COM), June 09, 2004.

this is all so ridiculous. the issue is separation of Church and state, not GOD and His people.

the cross does NOT endorse any "Church"-- it is a representation of the values and beliefs of those that settled los angeles (who happened to be catholic missionaries, i suppose). the same can be said for the 10 commandments in a public area.

The anti-christ is coming as Jesus predicted. These things must happen to fulfill because the end is near

The ACLU is currently anti-Christian. To the ACLU, the Christians are the ones opposing individual freedom which I think they define as doing what I want to do, when I want to do it, and where I want to do it. Anyway, they have proven themselves anti-Christian over the last few years. Now, you can let them have their way, or you can mobilize and do something about it. So far, all I have seen is community after community rolling over in front of them.
