His spine was severed if you listen to the other doctors talking in that episode they say he will never walk again

Well, if you mean the episode that is somewhere around 74-79, and if the yellow hair guy is Mitari (Sea Man) then yah, he survived... but if you are talking about something else.... then sorry, I have no clue! ^^
