Saint Lucy

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Fortune has brought me a bone relic of Saint Lucy that my grandmother used to have. I can keep this personally for about ten days. Last night I had the most pleasant dream about both my grandmother and my aunt who used to keep this relic after my grandmother passed away.

The only information on Saint Lucy I know about is that she was an early saint, and that she gave up her eyes. Does anyone have any other information on Saint Lucy?

Pat, Some of the things that St.Lucy of Syracuse is patronage of are blind people, blindness, eye disease, eye problems and throat infections. Maybe this is the saint you have the relic of Pat? There are 7 or 8 St. Lucys.

She was born in 283 in Sicily, and died(stabbed in throat) in c-304. Legend has it her eyesight was restored before her death.

Her feastday is celebrated Dec. 13th in the holy Catholic Church.

May St. Lucy pray for the soul of your holy grandmother.

God bless you and yours.

Yes,

I'm pretty sure thats the Saint Lucy. One of the reason the relic came back into my immediate family, as opposed to another of my father's siblings, is that my father wants to use when he makes house calls. (Believe it or not, some doctors still do that.)

Any other info on Saint Lucy would be would be appreciated. Is this the same Saint Lucy that is in the New Advent Encyclopedia? The entry there does not mention eyes.

Pat,

One of the patron saints for Doctors and physicians is St. Luke the Apostle who feast day is celebrated Oct 18th in the holy Catholic Church in case you wanted one to pray with for your Dad.

And in case you wanted one for yourself. St. Thomas More is one of the patron saints for Lawyers. His feastday is celebrated June 22nd in the holy Catholic Church. He was canonized in 1935 by Pope Pius XI.

I will make a mental note to find you some more information on St. Lucy if I can.

Pat

I forgot to tell you I have a bone relic of Mother Seton that I pray with on a regular basis just as big as the one at the Seton Shrine.

I would trust you to borrow this for two weeks if you ever realy wanted to pray with this relic. I won't send it by mail though it would have to be in person with you or your Dad.

Saint Thomas More is one of my favorite saints. My eldest son is named after him.
