This is going to be a new series focusing on individual breeds of chickens. I will be discussing standard sized breeds of chickens. I hope you all enjoy this series. This month's breed is the various Brahma's. We'll start with a basic breed discription. this is one of my favorite breeds. Their quiet, non aggressive personalities make a wonderful farm fowl.

Brahmas are slower growing birds. However, they could become more useful in meat production by the cross breeding of a faster growing fowl such as the Barred Rock. Even though they are a slower growing breed there is much to recommend them as a roaster fowl, due to their large size. However, cross breeding could significantly render a better feed conversion ratio.
