The Man burns on Saturday night, which is the 4th of August this year. But you'll want to get there as early as possible, since it's a week-long event with much to see and do besides the actual Burn. Also, the policy is that after Thursday, they don't let anybody into Black Rock City. I guess the idea is that they don't want people just coming to watch the Burn without really experiencing all the city has to offer. I recommend getting in on Tuesday or Wednesday if it's your first time and you don't have any big projects to build.

As far as where to fly into, Reno's about as close as you're going to get.
