[From St. Teresa of the Andes:]
"Love is the fusion of two souls in one in order to bring about mutual perfection."
"A Carmelite is a sister to priests. Both priest and sister offer a host [victim] of holocaust for the salvation of the world. A sister sanctifies herself, that by being more united to God, the blood of the Divine Prisoner which she receives in her soul might circulate through the other members of Christ's Body. In a word, a sister sanctifies herself to sanctify her brothers."

[I hope that many had a chance to see the 1989 Chilean mini-series (with English subtitles) on this wonderful young saint, shown on EWTN several years ago. St. Teresa of the Andes was marvelously played by an actress named Paulina Urrutia.]

KUNIGUND, KUNIGUNDE - old German name comprised of "kunni" and "gund". "Kunni"= "Geschlecht or "Sippe" (kin, clan, relatives, family). "Gund" is an old German word for "Kampf" which translates to contest, fight. The name Kunigunde was a holy name of the Middle Ages; the name's day is March 3. Other forms of the name are Gundel, Kuni, Kunza, Konne. In the Middle Ages there were beloved princesses with this name. The name was still used in the 19th century.

[Note: I am copying the following several (indented) messages from the old, obsolete "saints" thread for this day of the year, so that the old thread can later be deleted. (All my best to "st. Enrique" Ortiz.) JFG]

St. Henry, after whose name I'm called Enrique, was the first that proposed that the Creed be recited or chanted in the liturgy of the Mass. Before his time it was recited by cathecumens when they were to be baptized. He loved the "glamour" of the Catholic Liturgy and the study of Holy Scriptures.

BTW, in Spanish-speaking countries in general we don't much celebrate birthdays. It is rather our Saints days when we congratulate each other. Birthdays, even the pagans and atheists have that, but Saints day only the baptized can "brag" about having it, by the way, remembering their Baptism day when they were really BORN.

A proof of what I'm saying is in the singing of LAS MAÑANITAS, the congratulating song in Mexico:
"Estas son las mañanitas, que cantaba
el Rey David....El día en que tú naciste
nacieron todas las flores
Y en la pila del bautismo
cantaron los ruiseñores.....
Con cánticos y flores,
Hoy te vengo a saludar,
HOY POR SER DIA DE TU SANTO,
te venimos a cantar."

Imagine it is your Saint's day, imagine it is 5 or 6 o'clock in the morning, imagine there is a mariachi group at your door singing las Mañanitas, imagine you open your door, and there is a large group of your relatives ,friends and some neighbors with flower bouquets and gifts, imagine you invite them all into your home, and offer them a hot "cafecito" for the morning cold and perhaps a small glass of tequila or mezcal, imagine you offer them some "tamalitos" and atole champurrado and join in the general happiness...and you'll have some idea of what a Saint's day is....

Happy (belated) Saint's Day, Enrique!
When I was a boy, we used to call the feast day of our patron saint our "Name Day."
In my opinion, two more days are more important important than our birthdays: (1) our day of conception [true beginning of life] and (2) our day of Baptism [birthday into our Lord's Body, the Church]
