Mantillas and veils

Why do catholic women in other countries wear mantillas/veils to church but we in the USA do not?

For the same reason that women wear glorified underwear to church and men come in shorts. Most Catholics in the US don't even believe in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, so why should they present themselves in a respectful manner.

I am pleased to hear that women in other countries still cover their heads in church, but I think that is becoming rarer, too. St. Paul said that women should cover their heads in church, and depsite the changes since Vatican II, that requirement was never rescinded (nor was the requirement to abstain from meat on ALL Fridays, but that's another topic).

Blessed are you all you women! I am so much moved.

Since the USA is technologically and economically progressive country, it is used by the devil as an baited example to all nations. That is, with every kind of progress, there is also even every kind of familial, cultural, and religious degradation, permissiveness, immorality, immodesty, licentiousness, arrogance, rebelliousness, perversions, etc., are used an ultimate sign of progression and sophistication. Right from the a innocent child in house to priest in a parish in all the countries are trying their best to be more progressive and advanced before their fellowmen (in a worldly way) and doing everything possible to come to that lofty stage (like God). Devil tells "If you eat of this you will become like a god knowing and becoming better than others." It is not strange, in the garden of Eden, the woman was used for his wiles. Today too, the favorite instrument of the devil, the woman remains, and she does not dissappoint him. Just note, almost nothing in the world sells today without a woman and everything has to be advertised with a aide of a ill-clad woman everywhere even in poor underdeveloped countries. Truly, USA is the Babylon of the endtimes whenever I read Revelation.

God Bless!!!

Looks like male atavism has deep roots.... in EVIL countries like Iraq women carry veils even on street !!!!.

"... in EVIL countries like Iraq, women wear veils, even in the street..."

When I was a little kid (I was born in 1962), there was always a box of tissues inside our church door, so women and girls could cover their heads if they didn't have a veil, a scarf, or a hat with them. I really don't see any connection between a tiny little head covering and the full body & face covering that Iraqi women wear.

*********

As to why veiling is so rare in the US:

"...during the Second Vatican Council, Bugnini (the same Freemason who designed the Novus Ordo Mass) was asked by journalists if women would still have to cover their heads. His reply, perhaps innocently enough, was that the issue was not being discussed. The journalists (as journalists are wont to do with Church teaching) took his answer as a "no," and printed their misinformation in newspapers all over the world. Since then, most Catholic women in the "Novus Ordo world" have lost the tradition."

***I'm not sure if I am missing some sort of humor, but what does wearing a veil in Church and women covering up when out in public have in common? I for one wear a veil and I'm not being forced nor will I get a beating if I choose not to wear it.

God Bless.

Hi, there is not only humor involved - because of another poster definition of USA as a pervert evil country - .. but also the concept of Tradition.

In Latin countries women churched with veils until mid-end sixties indeed... but it was also usual to wear a veil or mantilla on streets. Men and women situated themselves separately in the Church.

In Spain, for instance, you can see still today wearing of mantillas during Holy week processions or when attending a ( bull fight ) corrida.

In arab countries they still apply both : gender separation during religious activities and women wearing of veils and mantillas.

THE QUESTION IS: "VEILS INTO THE CHURCH". PLEASE DO NOT MIND ABOUT WOMEN'S HEADS ON THE STREET!!

Still a big difference between women wearing veils because of tradition vs covering up because of law and fear.

I will have to say that I have been to a few countries and only saw the elderly wearing veils. I've had a few give me the biggest smile when they saw me wearing mine. Get that here at the NO Mass from a few elderly who come for the Spanish Mass. Must be sad for them to know many if not most don't even know the history of veiling and why we do it. Happy to say that at the TLM (FSSP) 80% maybe more wear their veils and 98% dress modestly. As for our country being evil...In our country TV as bad as it is still isn't as bad as in Mexico, Italy and France (places I have seen). They show far more skin than they do here and over there you will also have their skin magazines in plain view where as here you do not. The birth rate in our country isn't the greatest, but it isn't as low as Spain (#1) and Italy (#2). This is extremely sad considering both are Catholic countries. Where are the Shepherds/teachers?

God Bless.

Jala, My understanding is that veils and mantillas wearing is due to tradition. In those days showing hair for a lady wasn't modest. Men at church would be disturbed if they would look to women, etc... that's one of the reasons why I started my first post refering to male dominance...

I must disagree with you generalizing the fact that ladies wearing veil in arab countries is ONLY due to fear and law. For instance, take a Saudi lady : at home she will carry veil, etc.. but when travelling abroad - most of them - will not.

Is Saudi veil wearing only due to Tradition, fear or law : not only but also because interest or respect to they being muslim's home.. a bit like our Vatican

regarding EVIL : is not only the flesh.....

***Whatever the reason there was a canon law for women in Church to wear veils. Now men won't look at a woman's hair because they will be distracted by something else. ;o)

***Didn't mean to generalize. I am sure many women don't mind covering up, but would have to guess most don't like it. Who wants to cover up in the heat with only their eyes showing? Imagine how much they must sweat underneath it all! As for the travelling that only proves they must not like to cover if they choose to do so differently in other countries.

****Could be.
