Catholic Law Schools

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Can somebody recommend a good website that'll give me information on Catholic Law Schools? Also, if there are any Catholic lawyers out there, can you tell me your story? Where did you go to school? What do you do for a living? What made you realize that Law could be your ministry? How many different degrees do you have? I am considering applying to law school in the future and would like to go to either Notre Dame or Catholic University. I'm pretty sure I can get in. My grades are very good. I'll finish an MA in Theology soon and I'm confident that I'll do well on the LSAT. But I have some anxiety over the cost. I know I can take out loans, but public universities are so much cheaper than private Catholic law schools. I would like to go somewhere that offers plenty of financial grants and loans. Where should I go?

I know about this one:

Ave Maria Law School http://www.avemarialaw.edu/

There are also Thomas More Societies of Catholic Lawyers in many cities and states. You might want to investigate that.

***My brother who is a lawyer went to one these in Florida. I would not recommend them to anyone if they are wanting to grow in faith. Maybe in different cities they are better, but for the most part I don't think Catholic has anything to do with what they are teaching there. My mom and aunt sacrificed a lot to send my brother to one of these schools thinking he would grow in faith. Instead he went the other way.

God Bless.

My thoughts on the subject:

I went to a Catholic Law School in Florida. I don't believe there is much of a difference between a private Catholic Law School and a public law school - except $$$. However, you can make the difference when you graduate. Lead by example. In the end, go to the best law school you can get into. It helps when looking for a job.

"I'll finish an MA in Theology soon..."

Skip,

I assume your interest in Catholic education is an interest in authentic & complete Catholic teaching? Regarding present and future Catholic education I am curious if you are familiar with Ex Corde Ecclesiae and more specifically, Mandatum requirements ("Catholics who teach the theological disciplines in a Catholic university are required to have a mandatum granted by competent ecclesiastical authority.")

While perusing your options ask all the questions -price is but one consideration...
