Max, Was St. Peter Wrong? Explain.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Ask Jesus : One Thread

Am I to understand that Max thinks St. Peter was wrong about something? Here is Max' quotation from another thread:

"You can base your whole life on one verse of an Apostle who was sent to the Jews - who was prone to cause other Christians to live in hypocrisy (St. Peter) but, I'll heed the MANY LETTERS written by the Apostle Paul to the Gentiles. "

What are you talking about, Max?

How did St. Peter cause other Christians to live in hypocrisy?

(I've been on Conway a few times.)

Uh...rod, I take that as an insult. vmhs..

What is "vmhs"? And, what part is the insult? Eagles? (I'm only trying to verify that it is me posting.)Sorry, I meant nothing by it.

I'm a "baseball player"; nobody else thinks it insulting.

I'm a Patriot rod :)

When I graduated in '78, I left my memory as is. We now have the Weslaco East and I can't tell you their mascot. Is it Wildcats?

I wish I had time for football now :) Maybe I'll be more free when the season starts.

Actually, I'm a musician who likes NASCAR and many other sports that involve heavy objects moving at ridiculously fast speeds with humans harnessed in those objects. Baseball, or any sport that involves the throwing of a ball, isn't my cup of tea. I went to a professional baseball game one time. I spent most of my spectator duties observing the people around me. There was more action and more interesting peculiarities in the crowd. But, a puck isn't exactly a ball; I do like hockey. I guess it's like motor racing of the bio-carbon type. They do move fast in hockey.

Hey Rod,

I know what you mean, I do that to. I look at the crowd around me more that the actual game. I do also keep an eye out in case that one in a millian baseball comes flying toward my head. If you don't get brained, you'll get crushed by the crowd you've been observing as they charge after the souvenir.

>How did St. Peter cause other Christians to live in hypocrisy?<

I didn't say that. I said Peter was the one who fell into hypocrisy because of a faulty view of the gospel... because he feared the circumcision group in Jerusalem, of which James was very likely the leader until his opinion changed.

>Am I to understand that Max thinks St. Peter was wrong about something?<

If you believe the Bible, you'll believe that Peter was wrong and came to a better understanding of the gospel over time... Acts 11 and 15.

Want me to quote where Peter is said to be in the wrong?

Galatians 2:11 - "When Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was clearly in the wrong."

Galatians 2:14 - "When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter..."

Hope this helps answer your questions.

Rod,

I also graduated in 78. Did you graduate from Weslaco??? I went to Edinburg for my freshman year and PSJA for my sophmore and junior years...after this my family moved to east Texas and I graduated from Crockett High School. I still like Valley football, I just wish that another team would win the state championship. The last Valley team to win a state championship was the Donna Redskins, and I went to school there from 4th through 6th grade.

Go Bears!!!

Between rod, Kevin, David, and Elpidio, that makes at least 4 Texans who come to this forum. I wonder why there's such a disproportionate representation from this great state? Perhaps due to its size?

-- Emily ("jesusfollower7@yahoo.com), August 01, 2004.

Oops, I think I remember something about Luke being from Texas too. Sorry to exclude you, Luke.

-- Emily ("jesusfollower7@yahoo.com), August 01, 2004.

Its cause no one does theology like Texas...That said, Im in Tennessee...

-- ZAROVE (ZAROFF3@JUNO.COM), August 01, 2004.

Oh well, I'll take a break later :)

Emily,

rod and I are from Texas, Kevin I believe has moved away since. Elpidio is from California. And I don't know where Luke is from. And Zarove is a Brit. :p

Correction: Zarove is a Brit in America. :)

Gosh! you guys make it tough to do my penance!

For the record, I'm from Weslaco, Texas (1978 WHS grad.). I'm also a UTA grad. I never liked football (sports in general), except for street tackle football with the neighbor kids when I was a bloody toed kid. I spent 11 years in the Dallas area, learned my lessons and started over again in my hometown--Weslaco. I regrett Texsun moving to Mission. I miss waking up to the aroma of freshly cooked citrus on the cold winter mornings; the smoke covered the town like a security blanket.

The reason this forum has many Texans and "remote-Texans" is because Texas is such a big PLANET. :)

Now back to my self-induced isolation.

I will be a "remote-Texas" soon :)

-- David Ortiz (cyberpunk1986@hotmail.com), August 02, 2004.

Yes, Emily, I am a farmer person from Zacatecas , Mexico. I came to the United states at age 17. I graduated from high school in 2 years.

I have been living in California since 1979.

I have been an elementary TA and High school teacher for 22 years.

I went from Catholic (birth to 1983),to Catholic Yahwist (til 2003- still accepted the Pope),to Christian Yahwist in my religious beliefs.

That is why I am able to debate people from any Christian persuasion.
