On August 5, we members of the Catholic Church family commemorate the dedication of the Roman basilica of St. Mary Major (Our Lady of the Snows) in 435 A.D..
We also honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- saints whose souls are now in heaven:

St. Abel of Rheims (British or Irish, Benedictine monk, missionary in Europe, archbishop in France, abbot, c. 751)
Sts. Addai of Palestine and Mari of Edessa (Israelite and Syrian, evangelized Syria and Persia, 1st century)
St. Afra of Augsburg (Bavarian, reformed prostitute, martyred by burning c. 304)
Sts. Cantidius, Cantidian, and Sobel (Egyptian, early martyrs)
St. Cassian of Autun (Egyptian, bishop in France for over 35 years, miracle-worker, c. 350)
St. Emidius of Trier (missionary bishop in pagan Germany, martyred by beheading c. 303)
St. Eusignius of Antioch (soldier in Syria, martyred by beheading at about age 110 in 362)
St. Gormgal of Ardoilen (Irish, abbot, d. 1016)
Bl. James Gerius of Florence [Giacomo] (Italian, Camaldolese monk, died at age 33 in 1345)
St. Memmius of Châlons-sur-Marne (French, missionary, bishop, miracle worker, c. 300)
St. Nonna of Nazianzus (from Asia Minor [now called Turkey], wife of one saint, mother of three others, d. 374)
King St. Oswald of Northumbria (British, soldier, monarch, died at about age 37 in 642)
St. Paris of Teano (Greek, bishop in Italy, d. 346)
St. Theodoric of Cambrai (French, bishop, d. 863)
St. Venantius of Viviers (French, bishop, d. 544)
