I checked the model no of your hard drive and it's really a 240 MB HDD... Trust me, YOU DON'T WANT a 240Mb hard drive. What you should worry about is CAPACITY. 240 Mb hard drive can't do anything. You can put... like 1 episode of anime on it?? Try to get "at least" a 80 GB Hard drive and it should cost around 60$ (Max). You can find this price easily over the net

Quantum 240 MB (LPS240AT) 240 GB Hard Drive

This is likly to be a second hand hard drive as quantum and others don't make drive smaller than 40 gigs(GB) now. Buying second hand is not a good idea as there could be bad sectors on it and the motor might have seen better days.

When buying a hard drive(HD) look for the highest storage you can afford. Don't worry about the seek time as you don't really notice the difference. what you should look for is the spin speed of the HD 5400 rpm (Revolution Per Minute)is ok for running your programs but for what your doing a 7200 rpm one is better, also look how much buffer memory or cache the hard disk has, Generally most HD has 2 mb of RAM but a hard drive with 8 mb will speed reading and writing up.

Now you need to think about what inter face your mother board takes ATA 33/66 or 100(in your case i think it's 100) Get the wrong one and it'll slow down the writing speed.

Now brand: I recondmend hitachi, seagate, western digital and Quantum which i think is made by IBM. Stay away from Maxtors had three of thoes and they diden't last long!.

Recommendation: 120 gig western digital hard drive with 8 mb of RAM Going for £50 in the UK.

P.S. Make sure you have a free plug in your computer before you buy other wise it's a waste of time.

Oh god, do not buy a quantum harddrive. They are the worst only topped by seagate. Western Digital is the best brand out there right now. You can go cheap, but remember, you get what you pay for

You don't by chance work for Western Digital do you? lol

I have a 8.4 gig Quantum HD and it's taken some abuse over the years and is still going strong so i don't really agree they are the worst. If you said Maxtor there would be no arguments there.

I've had so many hard drive over the years and only trust the ones that i can pull data off once the inevitable happens. Maxtor's diden't crash but started clicking during use and froze the system. this is worst than a crash as it can be relied upon to hold anything.

ahh so thats whats wrong with my hd i once had a maxtor and after a year of (abuse) it started clicking once every often and then crash. had to repartition the drive ever few weeks to coninue using it. never really knew what was wrong with it.

Maxtor was using cheap circuitry for the hard disk controller and it would get unreliably during mild use. Don't know if it's still the case now as i have never bought another maxtor drive.

Also stay away from gigabyte mother boards had nothing but trouble with thoes. Crap tech support (they know jack shit), HDD lights failed to work, beeper failed to work, pci graphics card failed to work, hard disk faild to install once in windows, raid never worked and the bios battery needs replaceing every two months they are spouse to last 5 years!. All in all they offer great features on the mother board but most basic functions don't work, stay away from them!.
