There can be only 2 conquerors who can be considered the greatest by most criteria. Ghengis Kahn and Alexander. Alexander conquered all the territory in just 11 years. Ghengis did it in just over 50 years. He also did it over a 1000 years later. By that time there were already trade routes, roads and maps connecting all the known world. So it was much easier for him to conquer. He also didn't stay in the area he conquered he looted and plundered then left. He had no interest in colonizing. Alexanders impact has lasted for over 2300 yeas. Ghengis's impact was only felt for less than a 100 years. So if you look at those differences right there you can see that Alexander was definitly the Greatest.

That is a very subjective question. It depends upon your criterion.

Alexander the Great accomplished a great deal in a short time. He used heroic leadership and an excellent education to draw upon and build his tactics and strategies behind. Many would state that he was the greatest general of all time because he used a heroic form of leadership.

Genghis Khan conquered Huge tracts of Asia and threatened Western Europe with his armies. He would definitely be up there in contention for the greatest general of all time. He used light cavalry to carry out his attacks and used a great deal of psychological warfare (arrows with whistles, intimidation, harsh retribution).

Eisenhower was able to get the allied leadership to cooperate and was able to maintain control of the varied generals under his command.

Wellington kept close watch on troops for 3 days at the battle of W#aterloo defeating Napoleon. This was at the end of a very illustrous carreer in India and Spain.

Ceasar, Pompey, Rommel, Guderian, Scipio, Peter the Great..... The list goes on and on. I do not think that you could accurately name any one of them as the greatest general of all time. I am very fond of Alexander as a general and he is one of my favourites but you could not in good faith say that he was the greatest general of all time.

Of course he was the best, what a stupid question.

In my opinion, yes. But it was not only due do his strategic & military genius, but because he was loyal and made himself one with his men. He gained more repsect from his army than any other leader.
