Hmmm... Does history repeat itself?

I was thinking about something today. Do you know who George W. Bush reminds me of? No, not a monkey, Pope Urban II. You know, the guy who started the Crusades? Rich, greedy, and power hungry? Well, He got himself elected governor, whoops, ahem, cardinal, and yearned to be pope. Sound like anyone you know? Well, anyway, he was elected by College of Cardinals (Electoral College) in the Vatican and became pope in 1088. I know he didn’t cheat to be elected like Dubya, as he was elected unanimously, but the fact remains that he became pope to further his ambitions and make himself a ruler. But as the shit piled high, taxing people ruthlessly, (hmmm?) he decided it was time to start a war. So he called for the first crusade against the Muslim infidels. A devout Christian against Muslim extremists. I guess it is true when they say history repeats itself.

So take the hint. Don’t vote for Bush. As much as I dislike Kerry’s hypocritical politics, he is infinitely a better choice than George Bush. Do you want another Megalomaniac voice of God warmonger in power, just so he can wage war for what looks like many, many more years? What do you think?

Hmmmm. Those are some good similarities. I'm sure other similarities could be drawn between Bush and the wealthy Borgese popes as well.

Bush, the born-again fundy from the Bible Belt has allowed his religious beliefs to mingle with politics on several occassions, an important issue which will not grant Bush my vote this November. (Kerry won't either, but that is a moot point.

That's an interesting comparison. I never considered that. The more obvious parallel is Bush and Hitler...I mean, you've got a charismatic (yes, for all his MANY faults, you do have to admit that he does have a way with people) leader who grabs frightening amounts of power after a disaster (for Hitler it was the burning of the Reichstag...for Bush it was 9/11), uses the fear of an enemy (Jews, communists, or good old-fashioned A-rabs) to scare the people into submission, both purposely mislead the public and inflated threats to keep people afraid, both expanded the powers of the federal government, both used external wars to distract the public from domestic problems...I could go on and on.
