speech patterns in stroke victims.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Disabled Parents Network : One Thread

hello.

I am doing a bit of writing about my father's stroke. (which was now 15 years ago). I am interested in the effects of the speech pattern on children. Communication in general between a parent with a speech disability and a child who suddenly has all the rules of communication changed.

I find myself using the slow measured phrases that my father learned while in recovery from his stroke. My neice, who is now learning to speak, has similar qualities. The two of them are seemingly learning to speak together. His language skills have improved by leaps and bounds just being around her.

I was wondering if anyone had any information, or if there is literature of any kind on the topic. I can be contacted at zachug@earthlink.net
