On October 5, we members of the Catholic Church family honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- "saints" and "blesseds" whose souls are now in heaven:

St. Alexander of Trier and companions (German, martyred c. 304)
Bl. Anna Schäffer of Mindelstetten [also spelled Schaeffer] (German, virgin, paralyzed in accident, stigmatist, had apostolate of correspondence, died at age 43 in 1925 [beatified 1999])
St. Apollinaris of Vienne (French, bishop, d. 520)
St. Attila of Tarazona [Atilano] (Spanish, Benedictine monk, bishop of Zamora, died at about age 70 in 1009)
St. Aymard of Citiny (French, abbot, d. 965)
Bl. Bartholomew Longo of Latiano [Bartolomeo] [“Fratel Rosario” ("Brother Rosary")] (Italian, repentant anti-Catholic and ex-satanist priest, Dominican tertiary, served poor children of prisoners, died at age 85 in 1926 [beatified 1980])
Sts. Boniface and Palmatius of Trier and companions (German, martyred in 287)
St. Charitina of Amisus (from Asia Minor [now called Turkey], virgin, tortured and martyred in 304)
Sts. Firmatus and Flaviana of Auxerre (French, deacon and virgin, early martyrs)
Bl. Flora of Beaulieu (French, Hospitaler nun, mystic, stigmatist, died at about age 36 in 1347)
Bl. Francis Xavier Seelos of Füssen (Bavarian, Redemptorist priest, itinerant parish missioner in more than ten American states, died at age 48 in 1867 [beatified in 2000])
St. Galla of Rome (Italian, noblewoman, widow, c. 550)
Bl. John Hewitt of York [alias Weldon], Bl. William Hartley of Wyn, and Bl. Robert Sutton of Kegworth (English, two priests and a teacher, martyred [drawn, hanged, and quartered] under Elizabeth I in 1588 [beatified 1929])
St. Magdalevus of Verdun (French, Benedictine monk, bishop, c. 776)
Bl. Marian Skrzypczak of Janowiec (Polish, diocesan priest, martyred by Nazis [shot] at Plonkowo [Poland] at age 30 in 1939 [beatified 1999])
St. Mary Faustina of the Most Blessed Sacrament Kowalska of Glogowiec [Maria Faustyna] [baptized Helena] ["Apostle of Divine Mercy"] (Polish, member of Congregation of Sisters of the Divine Mother of Mercy, mystic, spiritual diarist, died at age 33 [tuberculosis] in 1938 [beatified 1993, canonized 2000])
St. Meinuph of Bodeken (German, abbot, d. 859)
Sts. Placid of Monte Cassino, Eutychius, Victorinus, Flavia, Donatus, Firmatus, Faustus, and 30 monks (Italian ... disciple of St. Benedict, family members, and fellow monks ... martyred in 6th century)
Bl. Raymond of Capua [Raimondo] (Italian, Dominican friar and master general, spiritual director of St. Catherine of Siena, died at about age 69 in 1399 [beatified 1899])
St. Thraseas of Eumenia (Phrygian [from part of what is now Turkey], bishop, martyred in 170)
