On October 8, we members of the Catholic Church family honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- "saints" and "blesseds" whose souls are now in heaven:

St. Amor of Aquitaine (Belgian, hermit, 9th century)
St. Badilo of Vezelay (French, Benedictine abbot in Belgium, d. 870)
St. Benedicta (virgin, early martyr)
St. Demetrius of Sirmium (soldier?, deacon, martyred in what is now Croatia in 4th century)
St. Gratus of Chalons-sur-Saone (French, bishop, c. 652)
St. Hugh Canefro of Genoa [Ugo] (Italian, chaplain of knights, died at about age 62 in 1230)
St. Iwi of Northumbria (British, deacon, hermit, d. 7th century)
Bl. John Adams of Winterbourne, Bl. John Lowe of London, Bl. Robert Dibdale of Shottery (English, priests, martyred [drawn, hanged, and quartered] under Elizabeth I in 1586 [beatified 1987]) [At death, their ages were about 43, 33, and 28.]
St. Keyna of Cornwall (British, virgin)
Sts. Laurentia and Palatias of Ancona (Italian, slave and her mistress, martyred in 302)
St. Martin Cid of Zamora (Spanish, Cistercian abbot, 13th century)
Bl. Matthew de Eskandely of Buda [Matyas] (Hungarian, missionary priest in China, martyred in 1309)
St. Nestor of Thessalonica (Greek, early martyr)
St. Pelagia the Penitent of Edessa (from Asia Minor [now called Turkey], hermit in Palestine)
Bl. Peter of Seville (early martyr)
St. Reparata of Caesarea (Palestinian, 11-year old girl ... after emerging unhurt from a furnace, martyred by beheading in 3rd century)
St. Thais of Alexandria (Egyptian, repentant prostitute, hermitess, nun, 4th century)
St. Triduna (virgin, lay missionary in Scotland, 4th century)
