Alexander the great a negative contribution to civilisation! Your questiom is quite tricky, perhaps you should re-phrase it to something like, "would the world be a better place if Alexander had never existed" in which case I would say no.

Andreas, in the galaxy where I live the Greeks "invented" democracy before the battle of Marathon. Hereabouts, Marathon was the first time Persia attempted to conquer Europe, so they would have been too tardy to prevent that particular invention even had they succeeded in their conquest. But that may not be true in your galaxy.

BTW, there are perfectly practical ways to intermix societies and cultures that do not involve bloodshed - trade and intermarriage come swiftly to mind - and which get entirely beautiful results not marred by violent death.

probably u live in a different galaxy... this is the nature of mankind for thousands of years now. i wish we could live in peace, i wish there where no wars, but thats life. after all, after establishing an empire like this, uniting and mixing cultures brings an extraordinary and beautiful result. i dont think u would have the same opinion if the persians had conquered europe. Europe would have to get through dark ages for years. Greece wouldnt "invent" democracy and the one brings the other and so on.........

In the same way that Elvis spawned a thousand Elvis imitators, Alexander has inspired thousands of monomaniacs to try their hand at conquering the known world with sword and flame. Things get broken and you'd hardly believe the mess they leave after themselves. The neighbors complain and complain, but it does no good. The only thing that works is for all the neighbors to get together and kill him - or at least slap him upside the head pretty comprehensively.
