Increasing BitTorrent speed

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Community Anime Reviews : One Thread

Hey, i know this question has been asked a lot, but im wondering how i can find out if im leeching. I haven't leeched anyone on purpose if I am doing so. I'm using it for mac and my connection speed is about half a meg but downloads only reach 2kb/s...on the download it says i have 35 peers but when i check the peer details only a few of them have any dl rate at all and the rates are really small i.e. less than 2 kb/s...im downloading in my dorm at college so maybe the ethernet has a firewall that i can't alter...but then i shouldn't be able to use bittorrent at all..oh well...any help would be great. Thanks

Iam downloading a 11 gig file and iam getting 4KB and with the other torrents iam getting 70KB. Do you hear me complaining?

yeah yeah your not complaining your just asking how to make it go faster. yada yada.

Look you have to learn how to set up your computer to use bittorrent and if you've set it up right and your still getting slow speed then it's just the way it goes. Nothing you do can make bittorrent go faster. I know thats not what you wanted to hear but that life.

It's not a big deal...I can always direct dl...just curious to see if there's a way to improve, but thanks for the help...at least i know that there's not much i can do.

Will you're in behind a College firewall, so that means almost all the ports are shut and that's why you're getting crappy speed. So I would suggest you to learn how to use DC++ or mIRC(maybe both).
