Car Rotation

greenspun.com : LUSENET : zipcar : One Thread

Living in East Cambridge, I always have to travel some to try out different/desirable cars (Mini, xB, BMW, anything really). Granted they are booked very heavily, I was wondering why car rotation was not in the plan for zipcar. Trade a Golf here for a Mini there, a Prius for a xA, just mix it up every month. That way, no one gets the feeling that zipcar is catering to certain areas. I mean if I'm going to go 2miles just for a certain car, I'm sure many others would and do the same thing. Seriously doubt car usage would not go down. Variety is never bad.

Well, variety _is_ bad when you're making plans in advance. I often reserve a car 2-6 weeks ahead of time, because I'm just an advance-planning kind of person. If I reserved a car and then it was switched to a different model, I'd be really unhappy. This happened once when a car was moved due to maintenance, but if the cars were moving around "every month" then I wouldn't be able to count on Zipcar at all.

How about one car per section of town that gets rotated. And it's labeled online so you know when it's going to get rotated and such. Those that plan way ahead can avoid it if it's troublesome or await the suprise, but the rest can enjoy a fresh car experience in their area.

They do have car rotation. It isn't every month, but it happens. I don't think there are any cars (except for the electric RAV4s) that have stayed in the same place even for a year.
