How many Bishops from Africa

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

I thank the connectional church for giving African continent 3 Bishops. My question is how many general officers? In this quadrenniuam let us think about this issue. My personal point of reasoning, is we belong to this church all of us. We have been oppressed by apartheid for 48 years in RSA .In our church we experiencing this problem over 100years please give Africa a chance to build the kingdom of heaven together.

Parson Landman -

There were no indigenous Africans elected as General Officers at the 47th Quadrennial. Last year I offered a suggestion that one indigenous African be elected as General Officer and that office be located in S.A. My suggestion was to transfer the office of Global Witness overseas. It is somewhat odd that an office which purports to have an international mission is domiciled in the US. QED

I think we need to accept the fact that we all paid more attention to those who were running for the Episcopal office more that any other candidate. It is true, but sad to mention that there was only one brother in the whole continent who was running for the connectional office (Historiographer). It is for this reason which leads me to believe that the people from African districts are not interested in contesting for other offices in the church. Rather, people prefer to seek the position of the bishopric. Rev Landman what we need to do is encourage and emphasize to our people the importance of running for other connectional offices. God bless u. Rev Dimpho Gaobepe

EXCUSE MY SENTENCE CONSTRUCTION.

CORRECT SENTENCE ERROR: The the third sentece should be:"It is this reason which leads me to believe that the people from African districts are not interested in contesting for other offices in the church.
