An Interesting Question: One that Requires Thought

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Anarchy 2 : One Thread

Okay, this question is open to anyone, since Im trying to get involved in this site that I moderate from time to time.

If you could create a government/political group to run things, what would the standpoints on issues be? Where would things stand? How would it be different?

Or, if you choose the lack of government, as in Anarchy, would you stay with straight Anarchy, or would you have Anarchy with a set of organizations (which really, doesnt make sense, but I guess it works).

Either set us back the way jefferson had wanted or this:

A government where to vote you must have served in the military or given a part of your life to some other sort of government work. To be president you must have been an officer in the military at one time. Legislative branch will be made up of people that served in the military for 15 years or more. Judicial branch will be a governing group of 12 judges that have are in placed by the current comander for a term of 8 years after their term is up the new leader or the same if he is still in power will put in a new line up. So basically a mix between Athenian gov. and Spartan gov. to make up an odd kind of neo-fascist gov..

Why hasnt anyone argued against my post?

Apparently everyone likes the idea that people in this day and age have the want to put people into little marching lines and tell them what to do.

-- K-Cee (kc@hottymale.com), October 27, 2004.

I won't argue your point since its simply an opinion :P

I would have a Comunist Facist Democratic Capitalist Republican =D In which sense take the best of all great Gov't [ Except for Theocracy since I don't belive in mixing the Church and State ] and mush them all togeather.

It would look something like this: One all mighty and powerful, elected by a counsil of 10-20 people. In turn those people would be elected by teh people The head person of the gov't would have all power, except for over the counsil. The counsil has all power over the head guy, and the people have power over the counsil...and something like that.

No Gov? Means No police so I'd go out and kill people. Thats all in good fun too.

I'd keep the democratic system relatively the same as it is now. I don't really see much of a problem with it. I would, however, make ballot access more inclusive. The Democrats and Republicans have tried to ensure that they will stay in power by making it really hard for third parties like the Greens and the Libertarians to get on the ballot.

I'd keep all the rights guaranteed in the Constitution, and add a few:

Right to a Living Wage- Raise the minimum wage by at least a couple dollars and hour. Nobody can support a family on less than six dollars an hour.

Right to Eat- Ensure three solid meals a day for every American. No one should have to dig through a dumpster in the richest nation on the planet.

Right to a Roof Over Your Head- Ensure some form of housing for every citizen. I'm not talking a house in the subburbs with a white picket fence. It could be a bunch of hobos sleeping in a gymnasium. But no one should sleep on the streets.

Right to Healthcare- Make sure every citizen gets healthcare when they need it. This could be done through a universal healthcare system, national health insurance, or simply aid to those who can't afford it, but it needs to be done somehow, especialy for children. The United States is the only Western democracy that does not ensure healthcare for everyone. This is something people in Europe take for granted. It's time we caught up to the rest of the world.

As for foreign policy, I would return to a semi-isolationist stance. US out of everywhere. Bring the troops home. Once they are back, we'll take the program of reconstruction that is taking place in iraq and apply it to inner cities here in the States. If we can find contractors willing to rebuild Fallujah, I bet we'll find a few willing to rebuild southeast DC. I'd stop all foreign aid to governments with a record of human rights abuses, and I'd break with long-standing American tradition and NOT overthrow any democracies or back any dictators.

I'd do the patriotic thing and repeal the PATRIOT Act immediately. Homeland Security? Adios. I'd fight terrorism by actualy listening to the Justice Department when it tells me an attack is imminent instead of going on vacation. Oh, and if I ever got a twelve-and-a-half-page memo with a title like "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Within the United States", I'D READ THE DAMN THING.

I'm against abortion, but it's not a federal issue. I'd leave it up to the states. I'd allow gay marriage. Last time I checked there weren't any homos getting married in my front yard, so why the hell should it be my problem? If you're offended by it, DON'T LOOK. Nobody is forcing your church to perform the ceremony, so quit bitching.

But the very first thing I'd do when I entered the Oval Office, before anything else, is ask for two things: a copy of the Pentagon budget--a full copy on paper of every dollar they get--and a red pen.

1. Home over everyone's head lol most homeless people actually CHOSE to be homeless or are phychotic. Lets leave housing and what not up to families and local groups.

2. How about we just make the doctors do what their oath says. if someone needs help they have to help them regardless they take an oath that says they will. if a state wants to give universal health care so be it but i don't think the federal gov. needs to get any bigger.

3. revise the patriot act and put a sun set rul in effect for 10 years.

4. do not cut military spending clinton did that and look we are spread to thin. pull bases out of germany that is a waste set japan and russia up to take care of korea and pull out unless it is attacked. i feel as long as americans are there the 2 sides may never unify. we need to up military technology america is falling behind in tanks helicopter missiles WMDs etc etc we need to up the spending on getting cutting edge techonolgy out to make warfare less bloody and safer for our troops..... yes i dont care about shooting someone if they are the enemy really it doesnt bother me at all but if it doesnt have to be done if i can stun the person and arrest them i think thats what should happen i am tired of seeing villages with hardly any "men".

5. i know you didnt say anything about this but education needs to be left up to the state more. what works in georgia might not work in virginia or inner city DC. we should let the state gov. decide what is best for the people because the federal gov. always over looks people.

6. no federal bills should be passed abotu homosexuality. the supreme court needs to stay out of it as well it has no "right" to get involved in the states affairs. if califonia wants gay marriage i dont care but here in georgia and in my native home virginia we dont want it so we shouldnt have to deal with it, but like i said if lets say maryland wants it i dont care that was up to the majority of their people.

well anyway thats what i think.

Anti, I figured somewhere in there you would have some sort of plan to fix up the States 'character' as seen by the world.

This question wasn't posed to fix America, it was posed to see how you would run things. But I guess it would work for your country if you did it about that specifically.

Lt, liked yours, and I agree about your Gay Marridge is a state affair matter. As much as I support it, if the majority of people in a place can't accept it, its probably only going to incite violence or problems forcing it to be allowed.

"Home over everyone's head lol most homeless people actually CHOSE to be homeless or are phychotic. Lets leave housing and what not up to families and local groups."

Nobody chooses to sleep in a box. That's bullshit. Some people don't have a choice because they are addicted to drugs and no shelter will take them...if this is the case they need treatment. Other people are psychotic (because Reagan decided to throw them out of institutions and on to the street in the name of "limited government"), in which case they need help. But a lot of people are just normal people who couldn't keep up with the rent and got evicted. A lot of them have families. They certainly didn't choose for their kids to live on the street.

"revise the patriot act and put a sun set rul in effect for 10 years."

How about repeal the whole damn thing because it's UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

"do not cut military spending clinton did that and look we are spread to thin."

The Pentagon budget has too much pork. It's been 60 years since they've had a cutback. There's bound to be billions in unneccesary spending just waiting to be freed up if anybody would have the balls to just start chopping.

"i feel as long as americans are there the 2 sides may never unify."

Ask me if I care.

"i know you didnt say anything about this but education needs to be left up to the state more. what works in georgia might not work in virginia or inner city DC. we should let the state gov. decide what is best for the people because the federal gov. always over looks people."

I agree.

thats total bullshit dude they do choose it have you even heard of hobos? you must not live near rail yards. reagan did that what 15 years ago yet it is still a problem? furthermore morons where checking in saying they have a problem when they didnt ie my uncle.

Furthermore the lawsons 4 people the mother works at a market the father does odd end jobs now the eldest son does work around the base. they live in a shitty little trailer yet they have a house and always have they have been here ever since i got here.

"How about repeal the whole damn thing because it's UNCONSTITUTIONAL. "

Thomas Jefferson deviated from the constituion a couple of times but it was for national security he said when it is ment to protect the nation it can override the constitution. it does need revised and i do think it should be reinstated every 10 years but there are parts of it that are needed and we cant take the time to get rid of it and spend a year making a new damn deal.

"The Pentagon budget has too much pork. It's been 60 years since they've had a cutback. There's bound to be billions in unneccesary spending just waiting to be freed up if anybody would have the balls to just start chopping. "

thats not true the pentagon had huge cuts in '93 '96 '98. they are constantly combing over us and looking for shit that they can cut trust me they took a bunch of equipment that they considered over costly ie hand weapons and echo equipment stuff i have used on the field counless times gone.

"Ask me if I care. "

You tell us to send more aide to nations but then when i am showing a plan that officers on the base talk about you don't care you would rather throw money at the problem and hope it fixes itself but you don't really give a shit about anouther nations civil war that could go hot any second.

You will care when North Korea either A indvades south korea or B goes into anarchy and you have a million man army with nuclear weapons fighting itself and americans going in trying to stop a holocost like national incident from occuring.

Other people are psychotic (because Reagan decided to throw them out of institutions and on to the street in the name of "limited government"), in which case they need help.

Sorry, this is bass ackwards. It was the LIBERALS that caused the psychotic homeless to be on the streets. Many years ago ;-) some rich old people would get institutionalized by their children for their inheritence, and they didn't like it. In the 70's the liberals fought for the "right" of the mentally ill not to be forced to take medications or be institutionalized if they weren't a danger to others. These two groups teamed up to pass laws to where someone can't be committed unless they are a danger to themselves or others. In practical terms, someone who is schizophrenic and has a break with reality is hospitalized, put on meds, and then becomes competent to leave on their own, stop taking their meds, and end up back in a cardboard box until they spook someone, get hospitalized, tuned up, and make the decision to stop taking their meds again.

But it was liberal groups that fought for it, not conservatives.

Right to a Living Wage- Raise the minimum wage by at least a couple dollars and hour. Nobody can support a family on less than six dollars an hour.

Why not raise it to 1000 dollars an hour? That way everyone will be rich! (hint: ever hear of "outsourcing")

Right to Eat- Ensure three solid meals a day for every American.

I'd rather give our surplus to the winos than dumping it down the drain.

You need to take a longer look at this before prouncing our system bad. Sure the socialist systems do a better job at normal well-person care, but if you need something MAJOR done, the U.S. is the place to be. If I needed an MRI I wouldn't want to have to wait for it like my Canadian neighbors.

As for foreign policy, I would return to a semi-isolationist stance. US out of everywhere

Can't argue with that, if people want to kill each other, let them kill each other and not our kids. OTOH, I'd increase military spending and training to have a REALLY big stick ready if the dogs turn on us.

I'm against abortion, but it's not a federal issue.

Don't look now, but it has been since 1973. The Congress should make abortion illegal. One million children are killed each year. It always makes me sick to see these guys throwing a fit about cruelty to animals, PETA, Tree-huggers, etc. and turn their backs on mothers killing their own children.
