On30 Bachmann 2-6-0

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Wiring for DCC : One Thread

I am trying to install a decoder in a Bachmann 2-6-0 On30 locomotive. So far I can't seem to get it apart so that I can get to the wiring for the motor, headlight and pickup. Has anyone got any suggestions?

Bob, I haven't put DCC in one yet but there is a tab between the frame and the shell under the cab. Stick a screwdriver in there and carefully pry. It will come off but it is very tight. After it comes off hit the tab with a file to make it easier next time. Steve Buffalo, NY

I called Bachman and they walked me through the removal of the engine. You basically have to disengage the back of the engine from the cab and pull real hard to slip the chasis out of the cover. When you get inside, the engine has two metal tabs that act as the pick up. I cannot figure out how to wire the motor up for a a decoder. I am using the Digitrak system. If you have the wiring instructions, I would like to get a copy.

I can probably send you more details direct. You can contact me at my email address.

It appears that the contacts are the connection from the wheels to the motor. By removing those contacts you isolate the motor and have a place to solder the motor outputs from the decoder. Harold's website above, shows how to install a decoder in an On30 2-6-0.
