Yes, I am fine. Posts are coming very soon. Nice to be missed. Actually I was just thinking last night I needed to get over here and get this done. Check back in.

Well thank heavens for that!

Just noticed the soap making threads. We'll be making our supply over Thanksgiving weekend when everyone's home and there'll be plenty of help. We render our own lard as well as purchase enough so that everyone can make up their own soap supply to suit themselves.

First planting for the fall gardens is over. We're now into second succession planting. Pansy seedlings were set out this morning. And mums were deadheaded.

The Fair is this week in our neck o' the woods this week and we'll be rodeoing (calf roping and barrels) Friday and Saturday.

Mama took a blue ribbon for her mayhaw jelly.

What's everybody else up to?

Will mayhaws grow from seed? I'd like to try growing some down by the creek.

Speaking of rendering lard...how do you do it, HarleyinFlorida?? We're planning on doing it this year and I'm always open to advice and suggestions :-)!!

Thanks!

wow.....glad to see this site is back up and running. I have just about finished putting the gardens to bed and am getting into a winter of sewing and quilting and knitting and reading!!

I rendered lard once in the kitchen and after that experience I understood why they did it outside on an open fire years back.

Why Diane? Is there too much smoke or steam? I know cooking down maple syrup has to done outside or at least in an outbuilding because of the water evaporation. Maybe it's the same with lard??
