On November 9, we members of the Catholic Church family celebrate the Feast of the Dedication of the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome (i.e., the Basilica of St. John the Baptist on the Lateran Hill). This ancient house of God (not the Basilica of St. Peter) is the catheral church of the Bishop of Rome (the pope).
We also honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- saints whose souls are now in heaven:

St. Agrippinus of Naples (Italian, bishop, c. 3rd century)
St. Alexander of Salonica (Greek, martyred in 4th century)
St. Benignus of Meath (Irish, disciple of [and episcopal successor to] St. Patrick, abbot, bishop, d. 457)
Sts. Eustolia and Sopatra of Constantinople (Turkish, virgins, 7th century)
Bl. George Napper of Oxford (English, priest, martyred [drawn, hanged, and quartered] under James I at about age 60 in 1610 [beatified 1929])
Bl. Helen of Veszprem [Ilona] (Hungarian, Dominican nun, stigmatist, c. 1270)
St. Orestes of Cappadocia (from Asia Minor [now called Turkey], tortured and martyred in 304)
St. Pabo of Anglesey (Scottish, soldier, monk in Wales, c. 510)
St. Ursinus of Bourges (French, bishop, 3rd century)
St. Vitonus of Verdun (French, monk, bishop, c. 525)

If you have anything to share about these holy people, please reply now -- biographical episodes, prayers through their intercession, the fact that one is your patron -- whatever moves you. If you are interested in one of these saints or blesseds and want to find out more about him/her, please ask. Additional information is sometimes available on the Internet.

All you holy men and women, saints of God, pray for us.
God bless you.
John
