On November 10, we members of the Catholic Church family honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- "saints" and "blesseds" whose souls are now in heaven:

Pope St. Leo I of Tuscany ["Leo the Great"] (Italian, eloquent writer/homilist, confronter of Attila the Hun, Doctor of the Church, elected 440, died at about age 60 in 461)

St. Aedh MacBricc of Westmeath (Irish, bishop, d. 589)
St. Andrew Avellino of Castronuovo [baptized Lorenzo] (Italian, doctor of civil and ecclesiastical law, Theatine priest and superior, died at about age 87 in 1608 [beatified 1625, canonized 1712])
Bl. Andrew of Baudiment [Andre] (French, Cistercian abbot, d. 1142)
St. Baudolin of Tanaro (French, hermit, 8th century)
Sts. Demetrius, Anianus, Eustosius, and twenty companions, of Antioch (Syrians, bishop, deacon, and other early martyrs)
St. Elaeth of Anglesey (British, royalty, monk, 6th century)
St. Guerembaldus of Hirschau (German, Benedictine monk, d. 965)
St. Hadelin of Seez (French, Bendictine abbot, bishop, c. 910)
St. John of Ratzenburg (Irish or Scottish, missionary to Germany, bishop, martyred by beheading in 1066)
St. Justus of Rome (Italian, Benedictine monk, archbishop of Canterbury in England, d. 627)
St. Monitor of Orlčans (French, bishop, c. 490)
St. Natalene of Pamiers (French, martyr)
St. Probus of Rome (Italian, bishop of Ravenna, c. 175)
St. Spes of Eure (French, martyr)
St. Theoctista of Lesbos (Greek, nun, hermitess, 10th century)
Sts. Tiberius, Modestus, and Florence, of Agde (French, martyred in 303)
Sts. Tryphenna and Tryphosa, of Iconium (Greek, converts of St. Paul [Romans 16:12], 1st century)
St. Tryphon of Campsada (Syrian, gooseherd, martyred c. 251)
Bl. Eugene Bossilkov of Belene [Yevgeniy] [baptized Vincent] (Bulgarian, member of Congregation of Passion of Immaculate Conception, bishop, martyred at age 52 in 1952 [beatified 1998])

[From a sermon by St. Leo the Great, on the common royalty and universal priesthood of Christians:]

"For all, regenerated in Christ, are made kings by the sign of the cross. They are consecrated priests by the oil of the Holy Spirit [in Baptism], so that beyond the special service of our ministry as priests, all spiritual and mature Christians know that they are a royal race and are sharers in the office of the priesthood. For what is more king-like than to find yourself ruler over your body after having surrendered your soul to God? And what is more priestly than to promise the Lord a pure conscience and to offer him in love unblemished victims on the altar of one's heart?"
