Just in case you were wondering, Alexander Selkirk was the real life man whose story inspired the novel Robinson Crusoe.

For the most part people did not have "last names" during the time of ALexander the Great. It was just simply not a common practice. People of that time usually just had a first name and then in some instances had a further part of the name that related to their hometown or family legacy name..An example would be Jesus of Nazareth. That is how names worked for the most part 2000 plus years ago. Now if you want to get detailed Alexander was called and known by the people in his Greek era as " Alexandros" and it is debatable wether or not he was called "the great" while he was alive; it strongly points that the romans some 200 years after Alexanders death started to actually call him " the great". In any case when they reffered to him as "the great" they would say "Megos" which means The Great in greek. So his full name in Alexanders time would have been Alexandros Megos. Hope that helps..
