the Church and Jerusalem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Hello all! I was wondering if anyone had ever thought that if we as the universal church, and holding the keys to heaven through Peter ....shouldnt we take steps to make peace in the holy city of jerusalem? With all the fighting over the city between the jews and the muslims and now the death of arafat, it would just seem like a vatican rule over the city could be a peaceful one for all sides, I mean like the vatican rule in the city of rome has been going on for many many years without problems ,so why not jerusalem? I mean, it would almost seem like a fullfillment to the jews when they see the church leading the holy land and the muslims alike.

{wE ARE. iN FACT THE pOPE HAS PEACE ON A GLOBAL SCALE AS A HIGHEST PRIORITY, JUST UNDER DEVOTION AN FAITHFULNESS TO CHIST...}-Zarove

{Because Jerusalem is the capitol city of a soverighn state, and not relaly open topury rleigious endeavours. For Catholisism to rule the cuty woudl requite it to rule all of Israel, which i a Jewish, not a chrisain, state, and asusme contorle of the Palistinians, wom ar elargley Muslim... Not a viable plan. also, do you relaly think the Jews and Muslims wo fight to the deaht fo it NOW will lend it to yet a THIRD party? Notlieklly, to them Chrisainity is a flase religion, so that woidl cause MORE problems in the lign run.}-Zarove

{Or they woidl aim their Gins at us infidels and Idolatorers who claim jesus was Ychua the rabbi... sorry, this stn a viable option...}-Zarove

The Vatican does NOT rule the city of Rome. The Holy See lost the Papal States in 1870 and the city of Rome which then became the seat of government to the Nation of Italy (which was anti-Catholic for 60 years).

Even today the Capital city of Rome is run by a mayor (*who was communist in the 1990's), not by Catholics. The Vatican City-state is only 106 acres - and is situated on the Western side of the Tiber river, whereas the ancient City of Rome lay on the East side of the river.

I don't think we will see peace in the ME until the Muslims decide to stop seeking Israel's complete destruction and the Palestinians give up terrorism as a tool. The Jews are hardly the ones driving the bloodshed. If the Muslims stopped blowing civilians up, and if the oil-rich Muslim nations started actually helping end poverty in those regions, we'd see a real chance for peaceful co-existence.

But no amount of Western bribes will solve this. A democratic Iraq may help - and having 100,000 US troops stationed in the region is a marked improvement to the 1980-1990's situation as it gives us leverage and a presence to offset Jewish fear of annihilation.

It's called a balance of power: it worked in post-WW2 europe: US bases everywhere assured the Europeans that they wouldn't have to fear another European war. This US presence also assures Koreans that they don't have to worry about Japan.
