greenspun.com : LUSENET : Community Anime Reviews : One Thread

well, i was watching news last night, and i saw something about movie company. they said they are not making enough money cuz kaaza and bittorrent and other systems are making free downloads. so they are going to SHUT DOWN BITTORRENTS, and some the other systems that share movies!!!!!! not sure when, but pretty soon. they are already working on kaaza right now. the worse thing is, if the website give up the email address of the people who downloaded movies, than the polices are going knock on our door and charge us COUPLE MILLION DOLLARS.

Don't worry about that bull shit talk. If you are no living in the USA... ex.. philippines.. there are no copyright laws on pirating... and i'm sure programmers will develop more ways to allow free trade of information...

I mean, why do people always have to try to put a price on the internet.. Google has the right idea because they are going to put books on the internet for free.

Movie makers and actors make enough money to live a life of decadence anyways. ... I see it on MTV all the time.. how much money and "bling" they all have.. it sickens me.

Then they are complaining cause they don't have a monopoly on the internet, it's abosolutely absurd and selfish of them... I prefer to "stick it to the man" hehe.

They don't get you by e-mail address, they get you by looking for your IP. Bit torrent dosen't hide your IP from other people so if you download movies from bittorrent YOUR SCREWED.

Unless of course you know how to hide your IP *wink*

-- Hellno (hellhas@no.fury), December 16, 2004.

*does not use bittorent*

go direct downloads!

You don't have to worry about that if you go LEGIT and BUY your Anime and Manga, folks...Support the original artists and producers and buy the real thing. I don't download unless there's ABSOLUTELY no other way. I buy my Manga at the bookstore and if an Anime isn't licensced (or sometimes IS licensed but the English DVD release has no Japanese, like in the case of Yu-Gi-Oh! or Pocket Monsters) you can buy it on E-Bay. So yeah...

I understand with movies and everything, but it animes you can't find it anywhere else unless you order it directly from there and can you imagin the expense? Not to mention how long and they might not even have English subs.

-- Joy (JoyfulJoy16@comcast.net), December 16, 2004.

there talking about movies not anime. And if they find you downloading movies or some other form of illegal shit. They give you a fuckin warning and if they catch a you again, your in deep shit cause even if you delete the files there are ways to find you have them.

-- shortstop (dogboygoesberserk@sbcglobal.net), December 16, 2004.

they are talking about movies, but they are gonna shut down the systems that we download animes, so it's like the same thing. bittorrents are over, everything is, except direct download.

-- fullmoon (wunhod@yahoo.com), December 16, 2004.

Hahhaha, you guys need to relax. Nothing is going to happen. They have been trying to get these court battles won for a while now, and they have made no progress. If anything, the defending side has proven that downloading songs do not effect sales. It is the record and movie industry which are trying to prove it does. If you want the facts, I can provide it. And if on some rare chance they somehow managed to shut down bit-torrent and Kazaa, which is 1/100 shot, another program will just come up and take it's place. This is the internet. A place with some of the most creative minds their are. So stop worrying, the end.

Good point adam. You guys need to calm down. This will NOT end bitorrent download........

BTW did u guys hear about Media Factory Inc. sending out messages to all major fansub groups and to Animesuki saying not to fansub and distribute their anime in the U.S. or they would file a lawsuit? It friggin pissed me off so much cause i absolutly love School Rumble!

First of all on the bittorrent talk they cant do shit you wanna know why there was a law passed that allows you to download stuff and keep it for 24 hours if you dont own it or you could just say its a back up copy which is totally legal and if they do end bittorent its like yall were sayin there will always be a alternative one being filetopia which hides your ip address so they cant track you at all and there servers are in a different country so they cant do shit to em im still using bittorrent because filetopia still needs work kinda slow but it could turn out to be the best sharing progam made so far and on the kazza end of it doesnt matter to me if it gets closed I never use kazza anyways to many viruses and crackers crackin into people from it edonkeys better anyways if you want a gui sharing program.

Isn't theere supposed to be some sort of First Amendment in america that allows the press(Including the Internet) to do that kind of stuff? theres no way they have a case. especially in america where people have all those rights to free speech etc.

-- Yoshi Banner (wont@tell.com), December 22, 2004.

I can't believe people are actually worrying about the media companies "cracking down" on piracy. For those of you weren't old enough to remember this, the same thing happened when VCR's were introduced on the market. One person would rent the movie and make tons of copies for friends and such. The huge entertainment companies were furious and filed MANY grievances with the federal government, but as you all know nothing came of it. CHILL OUT! Nothing is going to happen.

-- Simsa257 (Simsa257@hotmail.com), December 31, 2004.

you need to chill, if any of this comes to pass which i highly doubt, do you think the police are going to have time to knock on everyones doors? what? there are so many people that are out there that do it, calm down there are to many of us.

"First of all on the bittorrent talk they cant do shit you wanna know why there was a law passed that allows you to download stuff and keep it for 24 hours if you dont own it or you could just say its a back up copy which is totally legal"

Just wanted to let you know that that is an urban legend, a myth, and is not true. Many websites with illegal downloads site that to try to protect themsevles. But it means nothing.

Also, you see a lot of "If you are affiliated with any government, anti-piracy group or any other related group, or were formally a worker of one you CANNOT enter this web site, cannot access any of its files and you cannot view any of the HTML files. If you enter this site you are not agreeing to these terms and you are violating code 431.322.12 of the Internet Privacy Act signed by Bill Clinton in 1995 and that means that you CANNOT threaten our ISP(s) or any person(s) or company storing these files, and cannot prosecute any person(s) affiliated with this page which includes family, friends or individuals who run or enter this web site."

Which is another urban legend and not true. Regardless of this, there is still no need to worry.

-- Adam (ashapir1@binghamton.edu), December 31, 2004.

nothings going to happen and adam why did you have to tell us that that was the only thing that made me feel like i wouldn't get in trouble if i get caught downloading anime but still i don't thinks anythings going to happen cuz they tried too do this wit music but still file sharing programs are still all over the internet
