So I think I have a bruised rib

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Ask Jesus : One Thread

I don't know for sure, but something is making me gasp for air. I've had this ever since I was in boot camp, but now it seems to be getting worse. I thought I fractured something, because it hurt ALOT to do a pushup after I hurt my back.

I'm going to get checked on Monday, hopefully it's not that bad, but maybe someone has had this or something.

-- David Ortiz (cyberpunk1986@hotmail.com), December 19, 2004.

David,

I can't say I had anything like that before. But you should be covered by Tricare. Call and get a referral to an urgent care facility so you don't have to pay for it. If you're gasping for air, that sounds like you should visit the ER. Tricare will cover that. Don't let it wait unless you're going to be at a military facility very soon.

If you have any doubts, call Tricare. Your region may have an ask the nurse line you can get medical advice from.

-- Andy S ("ask3332004@yahoo.com"), December 19, 2004.

Well, I gasp like every 10-15 seconds.

-- David Ortiz (cyberpunk1986@hotmail.com), December 19, 2004.

It might not be a bruised rib, but a bruised lung. It sounds serious David. That gasping for air may be the lung in spasms.

Do you have other symptoms?

queeziness

swelling in the injured area

severe pain

feeling of fainting

My son once fell in the shower and hit the rim of the tub with the side of his chest. He was in pain for a few weeks. He never experienced any gasping for air.

I'm ok, I just have Bronchitis (sp?).

-- David Ortiz (cyberpunk1986@hotmail.com), December 20, 2004.

That's what I thought , David. I'm glad it wasn't something more serious. It sure did sound bad, though.

Glad to hear it, David!

David and all, I came across this website searching to try to figure out what is wrong with me. Four days ago I started having the same symptoms as David--the gasping thing. It just seems like I can't get a full breath. It's no fun at all.

So, I just have a question for David--were you coughing? How did they know you have bronchitis?

Anyone know what else it could be?

Thanks! D

David isn't around, but to answer your question, it could be pneumonia too. Better go to the doc, and maybe get an x-ray. That's the sure-fire way to see if you have pneumonia.

Down here in the Valley (Texas) there have been a few cases of Tuberculoises in the public schools. A substitute teacher just recently died of it. One of the symptoms involves the coughing up of blood.

See a doctor for a sure fire answer.
