Yes he died aged 32 in Babylon. Some say he died of malaria, others say of a fever combined with old battle wounds and heavy drinking and some say he was murdered.

"He never had his troops do anything he wouldn't do and he always found a way to overcome obstacles that would have brought anyone else defeat."

He was quite the leader then --intersting. Someone said he died at age 32, how'd he die?

Besides what he accomplished adn the age he did it by , what really made him great was his pure determination to succeed at all cost. He seiged Tyre(Lebanon) for 8 months. He built a causeway across the 1/2 mile stretch of water between the mainland and the island. Another time in Badtria(modern Afghanistan) he filled in a huge ravine in order to attack the enemy held up on the other hill, because there was no direct way to assault it due to the shear steapness of the hill. He did the same somewhere else also(I can't remember the name of the place). He would also push his troops to cover great distances in order to surprise the enemy. One time there was an enemy help up on a citadel that was only accessable by one side and it was heavily fortified with several layers of defenses. He asked them to give up, and they told him they would only give up when he had soldiers that could fly. So he offered a reward to the first ten men who could scale the steepest cliff and take out the enemies sentries and open the gates. They succeded and when he confronted their leaders he pointed to those men and said "here are the men who can fly". One other thing and probably the most important was, he always led his troops in battle and never asked them to do something he wouldn't do himself(this was unheard of at that time and even until today).

To sum it up, these are just generalized versions of what happened and what he accomlished(I can look up all the names and the locations, but I feel they are not neccesary to make my point). He never had his troops do anything he wouldn't do and he always found a way to overcome obstacles that would have brought anyone else defeat. It is how he conquered the territories he did, which is what made him great.

He was considered great because he conquered most of the known world and overthrew the greatest power of the day, the persians. He did this in less than 11 years and never lost a battle. He took on armies many times the size of his and defeated him. He died at the young age of 32 and was unable to continue with his plans to conquer Arabia, North Africa and europe. Even though there were more places he wanted to conquer, in a short amount of time he had created the largest empire that had ever been seen.
