THE EVILS OF PAPAL INFAILLABILITY BY SDQA

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Ask Jesus : One Thread

This is a mistake lots of people make. The Pope is infallible in matters of moral doctrine. If he makes a formal policy statement that something is right or wrong, he is correct. He can't be wrong (at least if you believe in Papal infallibility, which I don't). That does not mean that Pope's can't [censored]up now and then in their personal lives. They are human, it happens. If the Pope runs a red light in his Pope-mobile, he is not covered under Papal infallibility.

[i know this...but their 'moral' doctrines were everything but moral,i suggest you read my post about this in 'how many wars religion has caused/prevented',i've put there a whole lot of their 'moral' doctrines throughout the centuries...and after all that [censored] they still have the guts to bring up the dogma(!) of papal infaillability...incredible...anyway i think it's complete [censored]...if the pope declares something on that one special chair,it's considered that god spoke through him...history has proven enough i think...i really don't think that it's very productive to rely blindly on an institution that caused so many problems and killed so many people...in fact catholicism is based on pure ignorance and misinterpretation of the scriptures]-sdqa

but they really do suck it!

I'm surprised, SDQA, that you are so misinformed on this issue. Papal infallibility has to do with DOCTRINE -- theological doctrines - - not issues of personal matters. You give the impression that popes just sit on their thrown issuing decrees all the time. The last dogma to be issued was that concerning the Assumption of Mary into heaven and that was in the 1800's.

We don't believe that everything the Pope says is "from the throne of God," nor are we required to believe that.

I thought that the Assumption of Mary was invented in like 1950 or something??

-- (faith01@myway.com), January 29, 2005.

You're right Faith,

Pius the XII declared the Assuption in 1950. This belief was hotly contested I believe in the 400's. It was the Immaculate Conception that was declared in the 1850's, I think Pius IX There was cotroversy about this too.

I am not surprised, since neither doctrine can find any real support in the Scriptures. They depend far too much on human reasoning.

-- (faith01@myway.com), January 29, 2005.

Faith is NOT right, Jim. The dogma of the Assumption of Our Lady was not "invented" -- in 1950 or at any other time. In the most simple terms, the Church in 1950 declared "officially" a doctrine Catholics always knew and always held.

Oh please--it was invented no matter when...it was invented.

1950??

Oh get real....The Scriptures never warned us that there would be developing truth over the years to com. The Scriptures contain the truth.

R@rr.rr

I never said "invented," just varified some dates.

Hi Jim

I was getting a collection of rocks and stones ready after reading that you had agreed with Faith's "invented" remark. I read your response several times and then tried to imagine you sitting by the computer. "Surely, he is just confirming the historical information, not Faith's interpretations!?" So, went through the entire data base searching for any flatout heretical and blasphemous posts that you may have made in the last several years of postin. Naa! You're clean! The evidence supports the true meaning of your reply to Faith. The invention is all in the lack of Faith.

Just kidding around, Jim. I knew what you meant the furst......first time around.
