Alexander the Great was a king of the Macedonian Greeks. He lived from 356 B.C until 323B.C. He conquered the Persian Empire which at the time was the largest ever known. He did it in 11 years and he died when he was 32. What made him great was his ability to read a battle field and turn a mistake by his enemy into a victory. All the major battles he won, he was outnumbered by his enemy. He always led his troops into combat and never asked them to do anything he wouldn't do. He in a sense united all the Greeks(but it wasn't a voluntary unification). Like all the Greeks of the time they all fought each other and each one of them wanted power over the others. Anyways it was his perserverance, ego, skill and curiosity(for what was over the next hill) which made him Great. If you have anymore questions feel free to e-mail me and I would be glad to give you more info. James
