twitch response in calves

greenspun.com : LUSENET : AMTNSW : One Thread

Can anybody explain to me why several of my clients develop a twitching respose in their calves during treatment. This generally occurs whilst applying pressure to the glutes, hamstrings, ITB or peroneus longus. Any info would be much appreciated. Deb

Could it be that the Sciatic nerve is being impinged by Piriformis, & when you are doing your Glute releases you may also be releasing Piriformis which may be causing the twitch in the calves. Just a thought, I may very well be wrong, & no doubt one of more astute members may have a more plausible answer for you. Yours in massage, Graham.
